Long term averages are between 1-3 lbs per week. That's usually evened out by an initial rapid weightloss, and a slower sustained loss.

thanks! How much is the rapid loss rate? I ask only because I have a wedding this summer and I had initally hoped to have my surgery by the end of April but I can't even get into the nutritionist until April 30!!! I had hoped to be over the rapid loss part by the time I have to go to fittings etc.

I was banded on Feb 20 and have lost 36 since the pre-op liquid diet. I lost 21 to start and 15 since the surgery, but I did plateau for a few weeks and have since then started losing again. Go next week for my first fill.

Just know that each person is different. Alot depends on your starting weight and the rules your surgeon has for pre- and post-op nutrition.

My surgeon is less conservative than many I have seen written about here.

I had to do a 2-week fasting program pre-op (which is fairly standard) but was on mushy foods a week post-op.

I lost 8 lbs during the fasting program and have lost 11 since being banded Feb 15 for a total of 20 since Feb 1.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll have to wait and see and just deal with it however it comes.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
