Sleeping with the Band

Recommended Posts

Good morning. I was banded on 3/26 and am having difficulty trying to find a comfortable spot to sleep in. I am normally a stomach sleeper but can sleep on my side. Can't do either. Will this pass? Will I never be able to sleep on my stomach again? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Carol

I know that right after surgery my tummy was sore--especially at my port site. I did have a lot of gas, too! Once I was able to get onto my stomach or side (I used a lot of pillows) it was ok and it actually helped some of the gas pain. I sleep on my stomach all the time, now. I was banded in Jan. I don't remember how long it took before I could, but I would think that it will get better for you, too!:cursing:

I had my op last Tuesday and I can sleep on my belly again. Have been for the past couple of nights. Just depends on how long it takes you to heal.

I can't sleep on my tummy yet either :cursing: Actually haven't tried but my port sticks up a little and I can just imagine that having all my weight on it won't feel to spiffy. I can sleep on my right side good and sometimes wake up and I'm on my left.

Hope you find a comfy spot soon.

Carol, I read somewhere about using a soft pillow to support that area or a body pillow if you have one. Hope this helps.

That's what I did busy-used a pillow-kinda tucked it in close to me so it was tight that way i could kinda sleep on my side/tummy-after a few nights i know i started waking up on my belly. it was probably about a little over a week before i could just lay on my stomach at night without too much worry.

I am a "fetal" sleeper and had a very tough time the first week or so because I could only be comfortable laying down on my back. The good news is that it does pass.

I am not a stomach sleeper, but I am able to comfortably sleep now on myside. For the first few nights, I could only sleep on my back, (which is not good for someone who has sleep apnea) but I do also think that it helped with the gas because I woke up the second morning and my stomach felt flatter :). It took me almost a week before I could sleep comfortably on my side. I had to prop pillow us in front of my stomach..I thought...ugghh! this is horrible, but as with everything else, it will pass. Good luck!

yes yes yes, eventually you will be able to sleep on your side and then your stomach again.

I was sleeping in a recliner for 2 weeks po. Some can get into bed right away, but my bed is really high and I couldn't boost myself up.

hang in there...you will sleep again!!!

I know exactly how you feel. I cant get comfortable no matter what. Kind of sore to sleep on stomach. I rotate all night between left side and right side and they both hurt when I get up. I am glad to read about all of you stomach sleepers. Hopefully that will be me again soon!

:)

I was just banded on 3/28 and I woke up the morning after surgery on my stomache. Now I just put a pillow down on the bed and lay right on top of it. I don't wake up at all throughout the night with pains and I don't have the gas in the morning either. But then agin when I have pain at the incision sites I think compression gives me the quickest relief... And I'm sure that's not the norm either!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
