Calorie intake 2 weeks post-op

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on the 17th and have been tracking what I eat daily. I have about 55 - 70 grams of Protein a day but only eating about 530 - 720 calories and 8 - 14 grams of fat a day. I am not very hungry as the Protein shakes fill me up. Most of the time I have energy but I was wondering if other people at this stage of the game are eating this few calories? I am on shakes, yogurt, Soup and pudding for another week.

Thanks!

LA girl, I was doing the same thing about the same time. You're doing fine- as long as you are getting in your Protein and have good energy, it is all good. Best wishes!!!

Do you have energy eating this amount? I should be banded in about 3 weeks and have been wondering how you feel eating very little calories?

Hey LA girl - I am 4 weeks post op tomorrow and I have been cruising between 800 and 1000 calories. Like you I have tracked everything and pretty consistently hit 70 to 90 grams of Protein. My fat has been a little higher than yours, but I am not using Protein shakes at this point. I was wondering the same thing about 2 weeks ago.

At this point I have lost almost 20 lbs, so I am pretty happy all around. I have also found by staying up around 70-90 grams of Protein I have not had a ton of hunger other than at actual meal times.

As for energy at both the 700 range and the 900 range, I seem to have a truck load of the stuff. I have been hitting the gym at 5 am and going strong all day. My co-workers are all wondering what happened - they all thought I would be dragging. I really feel a ton better. I think it has to so with getting rid of the sugar and replacing it with more nutritious foods.

I ate about 500 to 700 a day for the first four weeks post-op. I'm six weeks out now and eating between 1000 and 1200. It sounds like you are right on track. Just keep up with the Protein. Once you start eating regular food the calories will add up fast.

Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your responses!

I had surgery with Dr Cunneen on 3/17 also. Mine was 2:45 so I bet you were before me.

What city do you live in?

How are you doing?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
