Hi everyone,

Well this is my first post!

I'm 21 and going to get banded... Just wondering if you could all tell me what to expect - I've read the research and the facts but want to know more of the real life stuff.

Thanks :biggrin2:

Jess

Hi,

I was 15yrs when i was banded so i understand the worry!

As far as things to expect ... the first 2 days are the worst pain wise but they will keep you drugged up, its hard getting used to not eating solids for a while but its so worth it because thats when you drop a heap of weight, as far as adjustments go ... they dont really hurt very much at all if you have a good doctor.

Um....remember that the band will take some getting used to, you may get reflux while it settles and have trouble getting anything down for a few days including Fluid depending on how tight you start. You may also feel hungry after the first few days, if this happens dont worry because it just means your stomach has settled and your nearly readly for your first adjustment!

A bit of advice from someone who has been banded 7 yrs, listen to your body ... if you learn how to tell when your content NOT full early on it will be easy to keep it off. The people who put it on i personally think dont listen to their body and learn to change their habbits. the band is a tool not a miracle worker :-)

And exercise is important if you are intent on a lifestyle change but take it slowly.

hope this is what you wanted, let me know if there is anything else you want answered as its kind of hard to answer you without specific questions.

Take Care

Bel

Hey Jess, I was banded last Friday, I'm day 6 post op.

now while I can't say that the past few days have been a holiday, because they haven't, but you find yourself sleeping alot, learning more about your body and what drives your hunger and digestion, it's all learning.

when are you getting banded?

HI Jess I am now banded and two days gone.

At the moment I am just relaxing and trying to get used to moving a little slower than usaul.

The day I left the hospital they did not give me any pain relief tablets, however they told me to just take Panadol or pandeine. Just as I walked out I ahd to go back in to ask for some tablets as I thought I would not make it he in a ggod state of mind.

After taking the tablets on an empty somach I new they would not stay down, as I do not cope with no food and tablets.

My food did not stay down after Breakfast as I think the anthestic made me a little sick. So trying to be sick and not hurt even more than I already was, was a little hard going.

On the way home, I had to do a quick stop on the side of the road and bring up the tablets that I knew would not stay down. I am finding the best pain relief at the moment is the panadine dissovables. I have to take these every four hours.

I had a better night sleep last night, managed to sleep on my side with a pillow restng underneath.

I am hearig alot of wind moving around and sounds like I am really hungry when I am not.

The foods I am taking at the moment is porridge for Breakfast or puree fruit, lunch is Soups and Snacks are youghurt and dinner so far again Soups.< /p>

Other wise all is going well for me at the moment.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
