success4me 0 Posted March 31, 2008 Hi. I am 10 days post op and doing great. I suffer from Migraines and headaches quite frequently. I used to always take motrin because tylenol usually does nothing. Well, I have had a pounding headache for two days and have taken tylenol and it does not get rid of it. I know we are banned from NSAID's and this includes my beloved motrin. Any ideas because I am nearing a breakdown!!!!

Are you aware that Vicodin contains acetaminophen (Tylenol)? Didn't want you to take too much Tylenol. If you do that too often, it is pretty tough on your liver. Vicoden and I don't get along well - I take the cup that comes with the tylenol fill it almost full (with the tylenol) then add a tad of the liquid vicoden - I only do this maybe onc every 3 months if I am in pain Thanks for the concern -:cursing: I really don't think I am oding on my tylenol :tt1:
alwaysmile_n 0 Posted March 31, 2008 I suffer from Migraines too. Have you tried imitrex, or something similar? You usually have to take it when you get the signs of a Migraine for it too work, but I love that stuff. You can get it either in tablet form, nose spray or you can give yourself a little needle. Good luck. Ice packs are wonderful too!! ;o)

snowbird 2 Posted March 31, 2008 Well, wait a minute. Check with your own doctor. Mine says the study contraindicating NSAID's is an old, flawed study, and he does not think there is harm in them for band patients, used as directed and in moderation. I'm not telling you to ignore your doctor's advice, but if you just heard it here that you should not take them, check back with your doctor.
angelface 1 Posted March 31, 2008 Snowbird, I'll check with my dr. but I sure hope you're right. There's no way peppermint oil on the wrists and temples are going to get rid of my migranes.
hippiegirl 0 Posted March 31, 2008 My dr says motrin is okay. He told me to take it as needed after surgery. I was able to use it along with my prescription. In my patient guide it said motrin is okay for band but not bypass patients You should check w-your dr.
nomadem 1 Posted March 31, 2008 while not advised I posed the same question to my dr...she said that if you MUST take advil type products then take the liquid form (children's type w.lots of water) so the tablets are not sitting in your pouch. She also mentioned that she had to hospitalize a patient who developed a bleeding ulcer from taking high dose ibuprofen for an injury. so there is your warning and please ask your dr first. Cota129 0 Posted March 31, 2008 Check with your surgeon. Mine told me NSAID's in moderation are ok. I use the chewable jr. Motrin if I have need for it. I'm allergic to Tylenol, so I'm glad I can still use the Motrin.
HeatherO 7 Posted March 31, 2008 I am happy you posed this question. I don't understand why Tylenol does absolutely nothing for me . . . but it is true. I get frequent headaches and liquid advil used to knock them out in 30 minutes. I take Tylenol and I don't feel any better . . . in fact I think I feel worse because the headache has a chance to reallllyyy take hold if you know what I mean. Laurinda 1 Posted March 31, 2008 I was never been told no Motrin and I have no problems as of yet taking it. I just cut it up small or crush it.
slikchik10 85 Posted April 4, 2008 I suffer from Migraines and abdominal cramps when PMS & during periods. I totally agree with the children's ibuprofen. I keep in in the pantry and drink LOTS of Water after I take my dose to move it down to my main stomach instead of staying in my pouch. It actually works faster than a pill for me. I only use it for those times when I KNOW nothing else will work. I'm not a vicoden fan, only took 1 1/2 pills post surgery. I'm a lightweight when it comes to pain meds, so this works well for me. Good luck. Annette
