pain in lower left abdomen

Recommended Posts

I am 6 weeks post op - no adjustments yet. I have pretty bad pain in my lower left ab (right to the left of my belly button). Had pain x6 days. Diarrehea on & off x6 days. I can't seem to press a certain place to find the pain, but definitely feel it if I twist my waist, walk or try to lift anything. Went to my regular doctor & he's talking about possible diverticulitis. Gave me 2 antibiotics: Cipro, Phalgum (sp?) & anti-spasm med: Librex. 48 hours later & pain is still there. Don't know if I should follow up with a gastro guy (like my reg MD suggests) or see the lapband surgeon. Anyone else experience this?

Can't hurt to contact both if you have insurance. I wouldn't take any chances with pain that persists for that long....

I am 6 months post op and I started getting the same pain to the left of my belly button similiar to a stitch in your side after running. It has been there now for a couple of days and I am starting to worry as well. When I push on my port area I can feel the pain move into the same area. :)

I came to the forum to see if anyone was experiencing this kind of pain, I have it since this morning (I know.... too early to worry about it, but it feels weird)

Did you find out what it was?

While I'm no medical doctor, and I haven't experienced your pains, I genuinely believe you should see someone to find out what your body is trying to tell you.....pain is your body's way of communicating with you. Be sure to listen. I would hate to think you could have prevented something from getting far worse.

I was stretching this morning and it started after that on my way to work. If the pain persists tomorrow, I'll call my doctor.

Thanks!

Update on my condition....Not sure if this is at all related, but I had to go to emergency yesterday with severe pain in this time my upper abdomen (kind of in the banded area). I was freaking out thinking something was wrong with my band. The pain came in waves and lasted for 2-1/2 hours. They diagnosed me with gallstones. Now I have the fun of dealing with possibly another surgery to remove the gallbladder. Lucky me :cursing:

Gurlygurl:

I have gall stones too. I'm having my gallbladder out on 4/17. My pain is intermittent, but it's bearable most of the time. I'm having my gallbladder removed by the surgeon who did my band. Getting gall stones is a side effect of having a sudden weight loss. I've heard that the gallbladder surgery is very similar to lap band.

Good luck.

Sue

Sue - good luck with your surgery on the 17th. So far I have only had the one big attack and some bloating in my abdomen with mild pain in my shoulder blade. I am hoping it does not come back before I see the surgeon.

Spent 11 days in the hospital; saw every specialist my surgeon (that did the lap band) could think of & even tho the cat-scans & blood work doesn't confirm it, the diagnosis is diverticulitis (based on surgeon's medical experience). Surgeon sent in a bunch of specialists ranging from urology to GYN to gastro & had every imaginable test ('cept a colonoscopy which would never be performed with this diagnosis). Only thing left to do was exploratory surgery, but thank God I got a little better the next day. It's day 13 & still have the pain in my lower left ab which is concerning me. Maybe it just needs more time - my mom was out of work for 2 months with diverticulitis.

Gurl - what was the end result of your pain issue? was it gall stones? did you have surgery and if so, is the pain gone? i am having a similar experience and am in the testing stages for pretty much everything, it seems. any update would be much appreciated - hope you are better!

Lakerat2u - Yes, I have one very large gallstone. My surgeon said that because I keep having attacks, he has recommended my gallbladder be removed. I am waiting for a surgery date, which will hopefully be in the next few weeks. Keep us posted on you situation as well. Pain is always a scary thing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
