Good, Bad, Ugly & Honest

Recommended Posts

I've read everything from why do people post stupid things that don't mean anything, great success stories, struggling people, modivated people - all kinds of people and the best part? I see myself if all of them. At some point in my life I've been every one of these people and now we're all together doing the same thing - attempting to take control over something that has TAKEN control over us forever. I'm so excited I can't stand it. Up until yesterday I didn't think I was ready. Scared, worried I wouldn't do what was required and not be successful. But you know what makes people successful? Honest, love, integrity & HOPE. HOPE is huge. That's why we're here right? I'm here for all of you ... to cry with, laugh with and for god sakes measure your food with. I'm excited and ready ... and I'm so glad that I get to do it with such a great group of people. Oh, and the most important thing, figure out what all the blosh-english means. Like DH ... what the heck does that mean? dear husband? I'm so lost in old school it scares me and I'm only 39 for crying out loud!!!! Looking forward to reading all your posts and being on the journey with.

This my first blog thingie! I'm very new but have realized the power of having a group of people listening to you and understanding where you are coming from. I think, at least for myself, that I have had at least 39 years of *stuff* stirring inside of me and am surrouned by people that have not lived the life of a fat person so it's difficult to a] be honest and b] be understood. At least as far as I'm concerned. I'm gearing up for a very long bumpy ride and if I can connect and help - and be helped along the way? What kind of blessing would that be? Because in our real life if we had that we probably wouldn't be here right now!

Hi and Welcome to LBT. I liked your post it was very honest and inspirational. It doesn't say whether you were banded or not, but I wish you well. I believe what you said to be true for a lot of us. There are ups and downs in everything, but having a little more control of them is a great feeling. Good luck.

That's good that you are thinking like a bandster before even being banded. That's what I did. I started researching it two years ago and joined this group about 4-5 months before getting banded. I wanted to get informed about it as much as I could so I could be prepared for whatever would happen! and know what to expect and that meant the world to me.. a month before being banded i started practicing chewing up stuff several times.. and taking smaller bites... i tried thinking like a bandster. i even tried baby foods out and different shakes and different Isopure clear Protein Drink flavors out... i wanted to be prepared and i was! So, now you will be ready when it does come. I wish you all the best. OH, and whatever you do, never ask what a PB is.. lol. It's a productive burp which means food comes up, not like throw up, but just stuff that you shouldn't have swallowed or couldn't go down. that's a question that gets asked A LOT... find that list with all the abbreviations and that will tell you a lot of the slang. good luck!!!!!!!!!

I have my first appt. tomorrow. I've been thinking about it for years. 5 years ago I lost about 80 lbs. through low carbing & exercise then I had a little marriage *thing* and went back to work full time. Well, I haven't gained it all back but I knew even when I was exercising that I wouldn't be doing it forever. I had back surgery and then trained for a triathelon and did it at 213 lbs. It rocked. But I didn't have a goal anymore and then all the other stuff happened .... and here I am. I've already had the 6 months of medically monitored weight lost [my 80 lbs from above], my BMI is a 40.0 so I just have to do the psych thing & the fitness test, get approaved and schedule. See, easy!!?!?! OY!

YAY!!! A newbie that didn't mistakenly call a ticker a TICKLER! Woo-HOO! (sorry, it's a pet peeve of mine, and we've discussed it at length on one of the rants and raves threads...) :cursing:

You go girl! All the faq stuff you're looking for is at the bottom of the homepage, there's info on tickers, what DH, PB, IMHO, IRL, and everything you might come across on here in there.

I like how you prepared before you were banded. I myself am about to take the plunge and give up diet sodas. I know I need to do it now before the band, because I will have enough to deal with then. I did not think about practicing chewing food more and taking smaller bites...although I have noticed how I shovel food into my mouth :cursing:.

Is the PBing really bad? Do you just learn to avoid it by chewing well and not overeating, or is it something that is just a minor annoyance. Also what about the Slimeing, is that an everyday event? Or is it something that is very unpleasant and to be avoided? To me I imagine slimeing as how your mouth starts watering right before throwing up.

Sliming and PB'ing are avoidable to some degree, as long as you don't have too much restriction, and you take your time eating, chew your food well, take small bites, and don't eat too much in a sitting, you shouldn't have a problem.

Sometimes, though, even if it seems like you ARE paying attention, and doing all the right things, it happens anyway. It's just something that happens, and it's a different experience for everyone.

*laughs* Ok, don't feel bad, because after I posted that, now I can't find all the faq's! That's where it USED to be! I'll keep looking and I'll post a link if I find it.

If anyone else knows where it is, some help would be good!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
