I'm being banded on April 4th and have been doing the preop liver shrinking diet for a little over a week. My problem is that I have no appetite anymore. My diet should be (in a 24 hour period) 2 high Protein Shakes, a light sandwich with 4 oz low fat meat, 1c salad, 1 small piece of fruit, 4 oz fat free/sf yogurt. I started out doing okay with that, but now I can hardly get in 2 of those items. Yesterday I had nothing but the yogurt and sandwich. Every time I went to drink a shake I couldn't bring myself to open the can. I don't know if it's aversion to the slimfast flavor or what. I don't miss food...and surprisingly, I sometimes simply forget to eat. I'm worried about being in starvation mode and not losing any more weight. I don't want to go to the hospital on Friday and have them think that I cheated on my liquid diet because I didn't lose very much weight. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks,

Kim

Maybe you are coming down with a bug. I have never had a problem remotely close to this so I'm not a good one to answer. I would forget the slimfast for now and substitute something with the same amt of cal, fat and carbs.so you get some nourishment. Trouble is , after surg you will no doubt be on liq. for awhile and you will need to find some kind of a shake you can drink. Good luck.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
