Just as I thought I was getting much better...i hit rock bottom. But I am better today. Yesterday is another story. I had not gone to the bathroom for 3 days but yesterday i felt the weirdest things. Most of my life I have had loose stool so this was a first for me. But all day yesterday I would get this weird feeling pushing (down there) and it would hurt but nothing would come out. VERY painful. I finally called my doctor and he told me take a laxative (which i have never taken before) So here i am thinking that it's a magic pill but three hours later i am sitting and nothing and feeling sharp pain...finally after 5 hours...it happened. So at night because I was so scared of this happening again, I took one before i slept...i was up 4 hours laters with diaerhea and abdominal pain and every hour afterwards. My question now to you brave ones who read this thread...what now...should i take another laxative when i eat? before every meal? every night? i mean it's not like i like having diaerhea or the cramps BUT i would take those any time over the Constipation? please help. and thanks for those who read this...

Well NO... That is not good for your system. What I do every other day I take PSYLLIUM HUSK Fiber pills straight from the vitiman shop. it says that you can take 2 3x per day but since i have my system pretty much in check...lol.. i only take 4 1x a day.. usually at night before i go to bed with a huge glass Water and when i get up in the morning it is like clock work... i have regular movement.... with no strain and no stomach cramps at all.. The reason the Fiber works is because it is not digestable.. fiber expands when it is in water.. so what it will do once u take it, it will expand and pull the other crap off of you instine walls and push everything that you ate before u took the pills out... Trust me it works... and you will see your stomach go down and you will see weight loss...because the food is not staying in your system for 2-3 days because your system may be backed up... Also that's why they say eat an apple with the hull on because it is packed with fiber...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
