Posted on other board.. posting on this one too Consultation in 2 weeks

Recommended Posts

Hi! This is my first post here on this board. I am from Federal Way, WA

I have a consultation in two weeks for lapband to see if its right for me. What to expect at the consultation?

I was not referred, I just called them and made an appt and they gave me one, didn't ask if I was referred.

My current doctor doesn't really know me, as I have new insurance as of January 08... my employer dropped the insurance I had been on 35 years so my old doctor really knew me and my history, and he was very supportive of me thinking about lapband a few years ago but the insurance did not cover it. I still have that email when i emailed my old doc asking about it, and he did type back "that is a reasonable consideration"..... luckily I still have that email, should I print it out and bring it with me to consultation? Oh yes, my current insurance covers it, just needs authorization.

I have been overweight for 30 years with some weight loss, then gain it all back up plus more, then lose then gain back .. yo yo ... tried WW bunches of times, Atkins, Jenny craig, South beach. The south beach diet was the best one I have been on ... and I'm attempting that again but its so hard with very little free time I have . and my place of employment is an oinkfest. Lots of food out there, but lately when there's an email announcing food, I simply delete it! LOL

For once I want to be thin in my life, want to experience life as a thin person,

I know there is a thin person inside me screaming to get out!!!

Thanks

Hi Pixie,

I so hear you about the yo-yo dieting. I was successful on a ton of different diet plans, for a limited amount of time. Then something would always happen, I would go off the diet and end up gaining everything back plus some extra new pounds. What a way to live. With the lapband, I don't diet anymore, I am losing weight and absolutely loving life and looking forward to being healthy for the first time since I was 18 years old.

At the consultation, they will look at a lot of different things, but each doctor is different. They will probably look at your diet history, do you have any co-morbities, what your bmi is, etc. They will also likely require you to have a psych. eval., sleep apnea test, nutritional consult, bloodwork, etc. This is part of the normal process.

Please keep us posted on how everything progresses, we look forward to getting to know you.
