Anybody Rely on Protein Shakes/Liquids For Most of Their Food Post-Op

Recommended Posts

Hi All:

I'm contemplating another fill. My Band has been unfilled for some time. The last time it was filled (only 1 cc), I could not tolerate any solids until late in the afternoon. I couldn't live with that as I was also breastfeeding my daughter. I'm thinking of going back for another fill...knowing that I may have to rely on a Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch. Anybody else do this??

I don't think it's something I could do for life... but I'm willing to try it for a month or two and see what happens.

Thanks

Are you still breastfeeding? Becuase I wouldnt try it if you are and are keen to continue.

For a month or two it probably wont hurt you, but you wouldnt want to live like that long term.

personally I wouldnt do it. I did this to eat better, not exchange on form of disordered eating over another. I dont mean disrespect by that, I just mean that the goal is to get well and healthy, and living on Protein shakes is not an easy or enjoyable way to live your life.

She's pretty much self-weaned now, so I'm not as worried about it as I was about six months ago. That's why I completely unfilled again.

I've never been able to tolerate any fill in my Band following my pregnancies, and have been waiting on a revision. Thing is... everytime a revision is planned, I end up getting pregnant. We're thinking about having one more, and I really don't want to go through a pregnancy with any other WLS. As much as my Lap-Band has driven my crazy in the past 7 years (or so), I've been grateful for it when I was preggers.

So...I'm hoping that I can do this for a few months and lose a bit of the baby weight before becomign preggers again. I'm also wondering if doing this for a month or two might ease the transition to solids a bit and make it easier.

No idea.

slimmy.... I did that during my liquids phase...because I hated the Protein drinks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
