How full do they normally fill a 10cc band?

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I received my first fill. It was so simple. This lapband has been great. I only have 1 area I wish was different. My doctor gives you free fills for the first 3 months, then you pay each fill $125. How often do people get fills. What amount of cc do you think I should try to get to - to save on money. I have 5 and a half cc right now. I sure wish they included it with everything. That would be great. If you only needed fills 2-3 times a year that would not be bad, but what if you needed one every month? Please if you have any suggestions let me know. Leah

I have a 10cc band and my doctor said that the most that would be needed is anywhere from 5 to 7 cc. The upper limit would really depend on each person and where you are most comfortable with your weight loss. He said you would never get a full 10cc as that would not be healthy... basically no food would get through.

My first fill is on the 4th and he said I would probably get 4cc. That will be four weeks after my surgery. Then in another 4 weeks I will get my second fill. He said after that second fill is when I will really feel the restriction. I may need one more fill but then that should be it.

Once the Fluid is in your really shouldn't be going back and forth for fills unless something is wrong with the band.

I guess I'm one of the rare ones but I have free fills for a life time (included in the cost of my surgery)... although, again, it's not like I'd be going back much once I get that second or possibly third fill.

I have a 10 cc band and my doc put 2 cc in at the time of surgery and tried to put another 4 cc in during my first fill, but I was only able to tolerate 3.5.

All of my fills are free for the first year except for my $20 copay, but I think my doc is pretty aggressive with doing fills so hopefully I won't have to go back very often since I live out of state.

I think you will have to see what your body will tolerate. I was drinking Water while he was gradually putting more in and when he got to 4 cc, it just stopped going down and he just gradually backed off until I was happy with the how it felt. I would definitely try to get as much as you can tolerate during your free ones.

I have a 10cc band. I had 3cc's put in at surgery and another 2 put in yesterday at my first fill. I'm feeling great right now - very good restriction. but we'll see how long that lasts. :puke:

I got 3.5 cc's my first fill, but then both my doc and myself were very pleased with my weight loss so far (almost 40 pounds).

He told me if I stop losing at least 5 pounds a month - then its time for another fill.

I got 5 cc's my first fill. Now I am up to 7.4 cc's after 6 fills. I go in every 3 weeks for a follow up and usually they give me a fill. I think I am at about perfect restriction right now though.

10cc Vanguard band, average 1+ fill(s) a month (miniscule now, maybe .1 or .2cc's), probably 15 to 18 fills so far. At around 9.4cc's in my band currently. Self pay. First year, all fills needed were included. Second year, I think they charge 100.00 per, insurance now covers, so I pay 25.00 co-pay.

I know it could get costly, but don't be in a hury to get filled too quickly. It's not only wise to let your band adjust, but very wise to let your head adjust, and let your new way of eating become a habit :huh2:

Wow, some of you have much more aggressive doc's than mine. I have a 10cc band, and had 2cc put in at the time of the op. My doc put in another 1cc at my first fill (4 weeks post-op), but that was at my own request, as I was really scared about getting too tight and having problems - normally he would have put in 2cc. At my 2nd fill (8wks), I was feeling a little bit more comfortable with the whole idea and said let's go hard this time, but he only wanted to add another 1cc, I wanted the 2cc to make up for what I'd turned down previously. We split the difference at 1.5cc. On my third fill (12wks), we went for another 1cc - for a total of 5.5cc. I feel pretty good about my current restriction - it could be tighter but I am feeling it work and not struggling with hunger and not having any tightness problems, so I'm ok with it right now. Doc doesn't want me to come back before 20wks post-op, unless I'm absolutely desperate. I'll see how I go :huh2:

I had 2 cc 6 weeks out then 4cc more 4 weeks later. I felt no restriction either times. I go back in three weeks and the we will decide if I need more.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
