Just getting started! I've already done my doctor visit and they've just submitted my precertification letter, and now the wait begins! I am not a very patient person ( think buzzard!) and have already called the doctors office and ins. company two times each! I've read so much on every web site and I ASSUME that I will be denied from the begining! So I feel it's better to prepare myself, and if I get approval right off the bat, it will be a nice surprise! This site has a wealth of information and I really appreciate the time and trouble everyone goes through to let everyone know their experiences!

Thanks!, Ally

Hi Ally,

It's hard to stay calm during this time, but try to concentrate on other things for your own sake. You definitely want to confirm that your carrier has received the request, although sometimes that's not easy to do. Who is your carrier?

Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi guys!

I feel so glad to talk to people who know what I'm even talking about! Most people are so negetive when you tell them what your doing! I even have people that tell me I really don't look fat enough to get this surgery??? Hello... 5'3/ 225! I always answer, "exactly how fat is fat enough?"

I'm from the Houston area(Conroe/Woodlands) And will be going to Houston to get surgery when I am approved. My ins. co. is Elite Benefits systems/ Beechstreet. I am trying so hard to be patient! I am not afraid of surgery at all, I had my Gallbladder removed through the lap procedure, easy as pie! I recover fast! My doctor has such a great history with this surgery, and that makes my really calm also! If I could go now , I'm ready!

Take care and enjoy the day!

Ally

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
