Where Did The Saline Go?

Recommended Posts

I went to the doctor this week. I had 3.5 cc in my 4 cc band last visit (December). This time he only pulled out 2.5 cc. Because I had lost 7.5 lbs since December, he only added .5 cc, which puts me at less than I had to begin with.

I'm getting frustrated because I'm not losing weight like I should. In fact, since Wednesday I have gained two lbs. Any thoughts on what to do?

This sounds like you have a leak. I wonder why your doc didn't comment on the amount of saline difference... did you ask him?

Are you absolutely sure you had 3.5cc's. That's partically closing the band.

That has happened to me before. The dr. thought I had a leak and gave me a huge fill. I was completely miserable for one weekend, until I could go back on Monday to have some taken out.

Since then, my dr. has told me this happens to a lot of people and he has decided that the saline dissipates.(whatever than means, evaportates perhaps?)

My doc said that some of the fill is always left in the tubing when he takes mine out, so he never gets exactly what he put in out, usually its a .5 cc difference.

Do you feel less restriction? Or about the same?

Also, sometimes the fill really doesn't kick in until about 2 weeks, don't ask me why, but it has happened to me several times. I am going for my 10th fill next Monday. I'm getting close to my sweet spot, but not quite there.

My doc said he has seen this in a lot of people. It's funny though, because I do feel more restriction now. Perhaps your doc is right Sunshine. It must still be there just not coming out. 1 cc I thought was a lot though. I'm hoping this will help me get jumpstarted again.

I have never had a fill kick in later. I can tell the next day how it's going to be. I have heard a lot of other people say that though!

I think I have 3 cc's in a 4 cc band and it's perfect.

I had all my saline taken out at my 4th fill last week and I had lost .75mls. My Dr said that it was due to Fluid being left in the tubing. Many people experience this and there is very little that can be done. Don't loose heart.

Saline does not dissapate or evaporate from a closed system. It msst have had a leak and the doc that mentioned dissapating must think everyone is as stupid as he is.

I really don't think my dr. is stupid. I was checked the next time and all my saline was there, so I have no leak.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
