An interesting response from some

Recommended Posts

Its funny I have been talking about being banded for over a year and nobody took much notice. Now I am banded and the response from some people has been strange to say the least. One comment from a work colleague that had a Tummy Tuck last year was "No i want to be the only one to change dramatically" and my SIL is suddenly working out like a fiend to beat my weight loss, its like they were happy for me to be the fattest and now the tables might turn they are threatened. Weird you would think they would be happy Im trying to be healthy. Kind of fun to watch them running scared too:tt2::teeth_smile::tt2::rolleyes2::tt2::unsure:

Same thing happen to me with a few people, don't let them get to you. They are just jealous.

This is why I am only telling the people I trust, as they judge you all in different ways, including my mother. So as far as Iam concerned, I am on a new diet and when I get to my goal weight then, I will tell the popele I want to tell.

The President of my company saw me and said that I was looking good, asked about the weight loss, etc. Another woman, about 110 soaking wet, starts swinging her long kinky hair, like the 80's tight perm, and said (that annoying falsetto, nasaly voice) "didn't anyone notice my hair, I got a hair cut, its so soft" blah, blah.

She had always made herself the center of attention. We have 50 men and 10 women at our job. She always goes around and flaunts and preens etc.

Anyway, the President says, "well, I really didn't notice, but I wasn't talking to you anyway".

Chrisann, LOL at your Pres response! That was great!

It will be an interesting social experiment once my weight starts coming off. I'm a stay at home mom, so I no longer have the office interaction, but boy do I remember it!

I've had a couple of women at work notice that I've lost weight and ask me and I just say 'oh, I don't know - I could have.' I haven't told anyone except my sisters and my Mum about the band because of people's reactions. I work in a majority female workplace and it can be pretty bitchy at the best of times. When it really becomes obvious I'll have to think of things to say but I still won't tell them it's because of the band.

Yeah we're the same. We've only told our immediate family. Everyone else has just been told that we're on a strict diet at the moment. It's tough though!

I told my boyfriend, mother, brother and trusted gay friends - no way I would tell the women I work with, or even female friends just yet.

I know what you all mean, I personally will not be telling certain people, like my whole family (except me) is friends with another family, my older sister went to school with the older sister and i went to school with the younger sister - the younger sister has been big ever since I've known her and the older one is now just stacking on the weight although she "claims" that her clothes are shrinking lmfao and I know if I told them they would get extremely jealous and probably stop talking to me (not that I'd complain lol) but if I did tell them I know they would tell others, it just depends on how well you know/think you know the person

The same message is resounding through this entire thread, some people just can't bare to see others succeeding. And because of that we feel we can't tell people what we have done or what we are thinking of doing.

I have told my partner and 4 really close girlfriends. NO one at work, NO family.

The fact that we can't trust is really dissapointing. Easy way out my ass!

this is one of the most dificult, painful and permemnantly restrictive (pardon the pun) thing I have ever done! this is so not easy.

Its not the part about telling people I was banded, its what I noticed after I started losing weight.

I told the girls in my Mum's group as I see them at least once a week and they're very supportive. I told my family (and obviously my hubby) and my SIL because she's awesome. I have friends that I have been through heaps with, have been close with for over 15 years, but I can't tell them, it's crazy isn't it. I'm just thankful for finding the forum!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
