Am I supposed to feel different after 1st fill?

Recommended Posts

Hello bandsters,

I had my first fill of 1 c.c. yesterday. I am on liquids today and tomorrow. I am starving. Am I supposed to feel different? Since I am not eating solid foods, is it true I won't feel restricted cuz the liquids are going right through? I can drink with NO problems what so ever. I just don't feel anything. Is that good?

Hi Kirsten,

Until you try out solid foods you're right, you won't feel any difference. The increase in restriction with a first fill is rarely enough to affect the passage of liquids.

But you may very well feel something new when you try eating more solid foods, so go slowly. Chew! And if you feel anything stuck or golf-ball-like in your throat, STOP. That's restriction, and it will take some getting used to.

Good luck, and be sure to let us know how it goes. :D

Kristen, I didn't feel anything when I was on liquids. However, when I went on solids I definitely felt restriction. Only, it didn't last too long before I needed another fill. Now I have very good restriction. This seems like a normal thing for most people. See what happens when you go on solids. Good Luck!

Thanks! At least I know I'm normal. Well, normal for this. I wouldn't say I am normal otherwise. LOL. Looking forward to that golf ball feel! (sarcasm).

I actually didn't feel much at all with my first or second fill. I just now feel a little with my fourth fill, but not a whole lot. I hope you get yours on the first one. :D

Your tell tell sign will bewhen you eat solids, Yes liquids go right through the band. I always had a milkshake from Mcdonalds on the way home from my fill and with it I noticed a difference since it was so thick, but the true test is when you eat solids for the firsttime after a fill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
