Banded on March 19th!!!

Recommended Posts

I just had my surgery last week after trying for 4 years to get insurance approval and going back and forth between the Roux-n-Y gastric bypass ands the Lap-Band. Out of the blue I got a call from the surgery center I had gone to for approval over two years ago, and she told me that my insurance now approved the Lap-Band procedure! I was so excited, and in less than three weeks, I had my surgery! I am 5'5 and weighed 242 on surgery day. I had my surgery in Overland Park Kansas, and Dr. Nighgro (sp?)was my surgeon. I did great, other than the pain from the gas after the surgery. Now I am having a little bit of pain on my left side right above my ribcage under my breast. My nurse thinks I irritated my stomach pouch by eating too soon ( I ate some rice) and is calling me in some steroids for swelling in the morning if I still hurt. I am so excited and can't wait to get on with the rest of my life in a much healthier fashion. I have many friends and family who have done this with great success. I am a little worried about this pain. Anyone else have this problem?

Hi there and welcome to LBT! I never had that problem, but what is important is that you did contact your doctor's office and speak with them. That is the best thing you can do when you are experiencing problems and are not sure what they are.

We look forward to getting to know you as you move along in your journey.

still having that pain in my upper left side above rib cage, maybe a gas pocket? Could that last a couple of days? If I lay on my stomach the pressure feels good. I can't find my nurses cell number that I was supposed to call her this morning for the steroids, I will have to wait till Monday now. I took some of my lortab a few minutes ago, but I am just afraid my band slipped...I can eat fine though, and no nausea or anything. Just that consistant pain in the same spot.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
