Although I am over three years out, I am not sure I am going to be of any help because I don't measure my portions. I never have actually.

I just eat healthy food, and only eat till full and not beyond.

I have to agree with Chickie. I don't measure my food either. I just know how much to eat and I stop if I feel full. Sometimes I eat a chicken leg and thigh, sometimes I can only eat the leg. Sometimes I can eat a chicken breast, and sometimes I can only eat part of one.

I am sure I am of no help.

Slimmy120,

I am the same way as the girls below your thread. I really don't think you need to ask how much do you eat down the road. We have taught ourselves, finally how to eat. We don't eat anymore because it tastes good only or because it is in front of us. We know we have to eat to be able to survive. If you eat healthy food or unhealthy food you only eat until you feel that full feeling. Don't allow your food to take control of yourself.

I have never counted calories nor measured my food. I am now having to eat 4 meals a day to keep my weight on. I eat healthy and exercise 5 days a week and I am loving it. I gained 6 lbs. of muscle and I am in a size 6. I want to cry when I miss out on a exercise day.

Do not listen to your brain telling you how much to eat. If you are eating slowly you will be giving yourself a chance for your stomach to catch up with your brain and your stomach will tell you that you are full.

Have faith in yourself.....

Josephine

I've only been banded for 6 months, but I no longer measure either. Eat the right stuff and by now, we all know when to stop. Like most, sometimes I can eat more than other times. The band is fickle and you can't figure it out. I keep a mental running tally of the Protein I get and still sometimes have a Protein Shake in the evening if I feel the need. Just go with the flow.

Slimmy120,

Josephine, how do you know how much muscle you have gained? I have been weight training now for 4 years and with a trainer since last July. I can feel

a lot of muscle in my legs, but it would be nice to know in lbs how much

muscle I have gained.

If your fat percentage has gone down but your weight has gone up, you can only be gaining muscle. I started at the gym at 136 and I am now 142 and not boney. I am able to see the muscles. Also, if your clothing size is going down as well.

I didn't begin exercising in the beginning, weight training that is. I only began cardio once I lost 60 lbs. I hated to exercise but now I am addicted. When I see myself toning up and certain muscles bulge out when I am working out it is such a thrill to me.

I have never measured the amount of food I eat. I did buy myself smaller bowls and plates so I didn't serve myself much food in the beginning but I know now about how much I can eat and just serve that. Just to give you an idea, I have a Protein shake for Breakfast most days, and eat about a cup (I'm guessing) of food for lunch, perhaps a little more for dinner. I try to eat healthy Snacks if I need them (which isn't every day), but I still eat chocolate more than I probably should.

I've been banded 16 months.

It looks like not one of us measures our food.

Tonight I am going out to dinner. This is a fish place. They let me order how many pieces of fish I want for $1 per piece. I usually order 4 pieces. I don't order any side dishes or garlic toast-I just eat the fish.

sometimes I can eat all four and sometimes, I end up bringing one or two home. The band is fickle. It has a mind of it's own.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
