5 weeks no word

Recommended Posts

My surgeon's office sent in my paperwork over 5 weeks ago and they have not heard from Cigna either way. I am hoping that this is a good sign? I heard that approvals take longer than denials? Does anyone know what an average waiting time is for approval from Cigna is? Any feedback would be appreciated. This journey is getting old...I've been working on this for over a year now!!

Thanks,

Marg

What type of Cigna do you have? I gave Open Access and it took them one week to deny me, but only because they were missing paperwork. I think they deny fast, but approve slow. You should call them.

I would call the insurance company to make sure they received it and if so, ask when they are going to notify. I keep calling if I don't hear from them with-in a reasonable amount of time and that seems to help.

Hi guys ...I have Cigna point of service plan or PPO (forget what this stands for). When I called last week CIGNA said they were waiting on verbal authorization from my PCP. Which could take a whlie with the crazy secretary there who has been the only one throwing wrenches into my year long plan here. Not sure why...unless her ins. doesn't cover lap band and she's sore. The guy on the phone said you haven't been declined they just need more clincial info. I am almost feeling excited here. ....will let you know tho.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
