Cheated and need advice!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

OK so I am so ashamed of myself. I have been on this pre-op diet which is full liquids for 10 days. I am on day seven and I cheated! I was feeling so sick tonight that I ate a sandwich and a piece of chocolate. So far I have lost 12 pds on this diet, which is so hard to do. I have been eating nothing but Soups, crytal light, diet shakes, protien shakes. After I ate something, I didn't feel sick to my stomach anymore, but now I feel like what the hell did I just do?

I guess this is what I was thinking, I have surgery on Monday the 31st. Which I wont do anymore food I will stick to the liquids until the surgery, then after the surgery my doctor puts me on a clear liquid for 4 days, then this full liquid for 10 more days, then blenderized food for 2 weeks, then soft food for another 2 weeks, then I can start eating small amounts of healthy food. When I thought about it, I was like wow I'm not going to be able to eat REAL food for over 5 weeks. That scared me I guess, so I did it, I ate something other then full liquid and now I am scared its going to screw things up for the surgery!!

Has anyone else done this? Please be honest, I am so scared right now!!

Please help!

You ate something that wasn't on your diet. That was then, this is now. Forget about it and move on!

You've done amazingly well! I don't know how you managed to stay on the liquids this long. ;-)

Hi Hiedismiles, I too am having surgery on the 31. Dont be so hard on yourself. so what you cheated. I dont even have to be on a liquid diet until the day before my surgery. Wow 12 lbs in 7 days. I would say the dr would be proud of you for that. I havent lost any but knew i wouldnt . I am just trying to be good and not eat everything in sight because I know I probably wont be able to eat some things after monday. I am nervous but excited and keep saying to myself "this is what i have wanted and waited for for over a year" So try to behave yourself today, tomorrow and sunday and dont even say anything. Your liver has been starved down in 10 days. they just dont want you to eat a huge meal the day before your surgery. good luck and keep me posted. maybe we can check up on each other when we get back.

i was put on a low-carb pre-op diet...i lost ONE POUND! the reason i was told to go on that type of diet is to get rid of the fat around my liver... surgeon told me it makes it easier on me and him to have more room to move around in. KUDOS to YOU WOMAN for sticking that long to a liquid diet!!!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
