losing it in ne 0 Posted March 28, 2008 I do know that your machine tells how many hours you use it and I assume your doc wants you as healthy as possible. I have had sleep apnea and used a machine for over 10 years. They take a little getting used to but you will feel so much better. Your health is at serious risk if you don't use it. They are small, quiet and have a variety of masks or nasal pillows. I can't sleep without mine now. Good luck to you. If you like you can pm me.

sfeiner 2 Posted March 28, 2008 I have had one for 5 years and can't sleep without it either. They are called CPAPs for continuous positive airway pressure or biPAP meaning the pressure is only there during inhaling. You might have a little trouble adjusting but you should get much better sleep and feel much more rested.
Irish76 0 Posted March 28, 2008 I got my CPAP in Nov--I LOVE IT! Even got my husband to go for the test and he just got his machine after 2 nites he feels great.
jena 0 Posted March 29, 2008 Irish76, I love mine too. I've had it for about 13 years and there is a huge difference between sleeping with it and sleeping without it. It's not the most "romantic" thing you can wear to bed, but you can whip it off quite easily if you need to. Heh! Jena
Irish76 0 Posted March 29, 2008 I think everyone should have a CPAP and take a few"hits" in the afternoon when they get that afternoon blah feeling.
kirajh 0 Posted March 29, 2008 You know what I love about my sleep machine? I can put the covers over my head, not get claustiphobic, and sleep in.
jena 0 Posted March 29, 2008 That's right kirajh! I love when I have it on and I take deep, peaceful breaths. The "white noise" that the machine makes is also very relaxing. Isn't it great to not wake up with a sore throat and that dry yucky mouth?
lilnora2 0 Posted March 29, 2008 I was wondering about that, thank you
brubear 0 Posted March 29, 2008 Hi I was also just diagnosed with severe apnea, I also have a deviated septum. Does anyone use the full face mask?
stormy2355 0 Posted March 29, 2008 Hi, I am new to the board, but I can tell you that sleep apnea was what qualified me for the lap band, which I am excited to say that I will be banded this coming Tuesday, April 1. During the 6 month nutritional counseling, and other things that I had to do, I did a sleep study. I have been using the machine since Mid June. I just had the nasal pillows replaced yesterday and slept better last night.
cheryl1952 0 Posted March 30, 2008 Do you have Humana for your insurance? I am in the going to another seminar next week. I have been told that my insurance has you wait 6 months while being monitored by a doctor on weight loss and seeing a dietician. Is this true? I also have severe sleep apnea. I have used a machine for years but I am not happy with the situation. I always take it off through the night. The next day I can't get my breath very easy and I fall asleep all day no matter where I am. It is so frustrating. I just want to be normal and to be able to go to bed like everyone else and not be afraid to go to sleep. I am scared about the lapband but I am at my wits end. I can't lose weight. Thanks, Cheryl
PSTEVENS9 0 Posted March 30, 2008 I've had a machine for approximately 12 years and I love it. I get a much better sleep with it. However, when I went in for a checkup shortly after I got the machine, I asked the technician about the checkup. He told me that if they suspect someone isn't using their machine as they should, they can report them to the department of transportation and have their license pulled. So, keep that in mind if you're not using the machine all the time.
harleymom 0 Posted March 30, 2008 I have been using a CPAP for fifteen years now. I learned I had sleep apnea when I had my first child. Yes, they are "different" but boy do they help. My ex used to call me darth vader, but the new machines are quiet and much more comfortable. Glad I kept the machine and said goodbye to him...:lol:Good luck, and yes, it is very important that you use your machine. Sleep apnea is when you quit breathing at night...we had one case in our town where a known police officer died due to sleep apnea..so use the machine! It will help you sleep and make you feel better.
