I had my first fill on Tuesday. I was fine with the Clear Liquids the first day and then the full liquids the second day, but now that I'm eating real food again, I have restriction. I'm not complaining, but I have to drink Water very, very slowly (small sips), or I get pain. I have to cut things into tiny bites, which is okay. The thing is, even though I have restriction, my appetite isn't restricted! Is this normal? Do I need a 2nd fill and can I expect that appetite to go down?

thanks!

Jen:

I have issues with left shoulder pain sometimes too. My doctor told me that there is a nerve that goes by your esophogus and up past your left shoulder. He said that if your esophogus is irritated it can send the pain right up to your shoulder with this nerve. So, it could be that your esophogus is irritated because of your fill, or because of what you've eaten after the fill. I find that a good hot shower can help with the pain, or a heating pad. Most of all, though it's eating small bites, and small portions, and chewing things until they're mush. I find that sometimes if I have an episode of sliming and pb'ing that my left shoulder aches.

Funny though, I recently had a gall bladder attack and found that I get pain in the right shoulder when my gall stones are acting up. I'm having my gall bladder out on 4/17, so while I imagine the pain will be worse for a few days, I don't expect to have the right shoulder pain again.

I hope your pain goes away soon. Good luck.

Sue

I have been on liquids since my fill yesterday. Strange thing is when I drink something it seems to go away for a while. I know what you mean about the pain from the gall bladder, I had stones too had mine taken out Dec 2006. Will this shoulder pain eventually go away?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
