Thank you for saying what had to be said. I don't think it fell on deaf ears at all.

There will always be people that can't make up their minds for themselves and they rely on what others tell them and think to themselves that it is gospel because that is what they read or heard. It is rather sad...

Very true. And don't forget the people that ask a question and then ignore all the answers/advice except the bits that THEY want to hear.

Person 1: "Will this hurt me?"

Person 2: "Probably."

Person 3: "Likely."

Person 4: "Nope, I did it, you'll be fine!"

Person 5: "Yep."

Person 6: "It might. Ask your surgeon and do what he recommends."

Person 1: "Thanks, Person 4, that's what I thought!"

:huh2::)

Haha, deja vu. :)

The other kicker is when people withhold the whole message in their post. E.g.:

"I've had 15 fills in a 4cc band and I don't have any restriction!"

"Umm, how much were your fills?"

"Like 2cc each but right now I'm completely unfilled."

For some reason, and it's not just lap band info, people trust info from other laymen more than from professionals. I used to work for the Social Security Administration, and I don't know how many times friends and family asked me for information about their Social Security, then followed up my statements with "That's not what my neighborfriendcousintotalstrangeronthestreet says." I don't understand it, but it's human nature. When I see posts here saying things like, "I've been puking blood for days, what should I do, do you think I should call a doctor?" I am so totally amazed. WHY ARE YOU ASKING US???

I think your wonderful words of wisdom needs to be posted on every single forum on LBT!!!! Alex???

Everyone should be reading that and taking it to heart. Only you and your doctor know what is best for you!!!

I found LBT "After" I was banded - and I'm not an example of WLS research. I decided one night - that's what I'll have; and then researched a recommendation. Though I found a talented Surgeon, I could never imagine taking medical advise here & make it my own.

My opionion only - BUT..... I believe MO/or just Obese patients will "Accept" words of wisdom here - don't want to "bother" medical staff for their own good. I could be slammed here - but that's my assessment.

I'm pretty fickle - maybe because I had to write a check for $30k (hubby banded same day w/me) .. I had NO hesitation calling my Dr for any stupid question I had. And ya know what - My surgeon Loved my "stupid" questions- Even on a Sunday during Dallas Cowboy Game....He took the time to talk to me. A good Dr in my opionion welcomes a dialogue on how to get healthy. We're still in a war of words of what my goal weight should be - but that's a conversation I dont' see taking place on this forum. A truly active particpation on how to get healthy - NOT a mission to get to size 4.

I wish I did more research - but I am where I am - and I work my ass off every day to get fit.. And each day I feel that much better / relaxed & can enjoy the small gifts.....

Lulu I see what you are saying. I think it is the posts that say "I am throwing up blood, what should I do" that piss people off. I mean seriously they should not be on here asking advice, they should be in the ER.

BBK and you other bright people,

You are on the money, but I think it could be said that there are banded people who post on here as if they were gods and people should do as they do. Those are the folks that need a good tongue lashing, and need to be told to stop dispensing unsound advice as much as silly people are being told to stop heeding it.

But again, it's a public forum so if person A says, "I'm unable to breath, I'm turning a slight shade of blue, should I get a slight unfill? I like to be tight and don't want to bother my surgeon."

And person B answers, "I turned blue 4 times since banding 4 months ago. It always goes away and I lose 5 pounds a week. I think turning blue is the best way to lose weight. Other people will tell you I'm wrong, but they are just jealous."

Both A and B get what they deserve and no public service annoucements are going to make either one wisen up.

I'm just saying...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
