Hi Marie!!

I used Dr. Jay (Nirmal Jayaseelan) he offices out of Medical City and I had my surgery at The Surgery Center of Richardson.

I started at 319.5 Tuesday the day I started my (7 day) pre-op diet. Tomorrow will be two weeks post op and I have lost 25 lbs. I get to start mushies tomorrow and Pintos and cheese have never sounded so good. lol

I would like to get to 175 and see where I need to go from there. I am 5*10 and big boned, so that may be as small as I need to get.

Thanks so much for your intrest!!

Yet another Texan! Kara, I imagine you could walk down the street of any city or town in your state and run into someone from Lap Band Talk! Welcome, and congratulations on your loss.

Hi Kara!!

Congratulations on your banding and your great head start out of the gate! Your next step is mushies--yum--and your weight loss will slow or stop. Be prepared!! It's not stopping forever, but it will stop for a little while. Don't panic. :)

I'll be your band buddy--we have almost exactly the same stats! I've never been 175 but yeah, that's a little secret goal of mine, too. I'm thrilled to be at 226, though! I'll take it!! :D

Thank you all so much for the Warm Welcome. It is much appreicated.

Alex - I am worried about the slowness when i start mushies. I cant wait, mind you... but I am scared to death of not getting on the scale every other day and seeing a 2-4 lb drop. BUT I guess the quickness had to start somewhere. I am so happy right now that as long as i dont gain anything... ill be Cool.

I would love to see your Before and Afters, I really cannot even wrap my head around what I might look like at your weight.

Thanks again all of you!!

Babs, I am a member of DFW Bandsters, I just dont get to post much. I used Bandlandia, but have not heard from them since I set up the pre-op visit with my surgeon and faxed the paperwork. But then again I am not sure what or if any type of hand they would have in post op stuff.

Thanks again so much!

Kara

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
