$700 fills in Oxford, MS!

Recommended Posts

Ugh. I am a not-yet-banded self-pay and I thought I had it all figured out. Dr.King in Oxford, MS has a lap-band package for $14,500 and I was excited about the price. But then his office called and it turns out that for most people the first year or so of fills has to be done at the hospital, and the cost is around $700!!!! That $14,500 package only covers the very first fill. I just can't afford to pay $700 every six weeks for a fill. Is it normal for fills to be that expensive?

That sounds way high! You could probably find a place to do the fills somewhere else for a lot cheaper! You could even make a trip to another city and still come out ahead. Check out your alternatives.

that sounds really high for a fill.. I was a self pay and surgery was $16,000 and I have lifetimes fills and unfills included. I would look and see who else is a few hour drive away.

You should come to Tupelo and let Dr. Pinson do your surgery. Fills are only 22.50 for me after my free period. Self Pay I'm not sure but that much you quoted is outrageous

That's outrageous, especially considering all they do is stick a needle in and push some saline through.

Maybe $700 is for a year of fills, not each fill.

No, she said it's each fill. I made sure to ask because I couldn't believe it. Even she said that's really high and she hates that the price went up.

Wow...maybe you should consider either a different surgeon OR a local fill center.

Good Luck

Well, finding out that fill price helped me to decide to go with a different surgeon that's actually closer. His surgery price is higher, but covers the first year of fills.

It must be somthing about Mississippi I was banded 2 1/2 yrs ago in St Louis Mo. and my fills were $100 I moved to south Ms. and the only doc around here that does it wants $1500 for 1 year no exceptions. That would figure out to be 750 per fill because the most I would have in a year would be 2 , So I have opted for self fill .Needles and saline can be purchased without a perscription.I have a very visable port no need for flouro. so why not?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
