SUPER SORE after a fill

Recommended Posts

My first 2 fills were a breeze. One prick and in 5 minutes it was over. However, yesterday I wasn't so lucky. The doc had a hard time finding the "spot". I wasn't poked more than once, but he did a lot of digging with the needle. Today I hurt.:tongue_smilie: Im guessing that should be expected, right?

Thanks!

Yep. I had one hard fill, took about 20 minutes of digging around, and for a few days after I felt like I had been kicked. And had some nice bruising, to boot.

ive never had this problem. knock on wood... im usually tender after a normal fill. i had to go in a few days ago to get some unfilling and that really hurt. it was only a 2 day gap between the fill and unfill. i was really sore from the extra poking. is the needle larger than a normal needle or what? normally shots dont bother me but that thing feels like an epidural needle.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt and burned it.

My last fill SUCKED. He dug and dug with the needle until I couldn't take it anymore, so he pulled out the needle, gave me a bit of a breather (he has me do a crunch while he's doing the fill for easier access to the port), and on the second stick, it went right in. I've been a big baby about it since then, and have been putting off another fill, which I think is now overdue.

momof1 - it doesn't happen that often. In my case I needed an emergency unfill and the on-call surgeon had never done a fill before. He kept thinking he had hit the port, but missing it, so instead of pulling the needle out and repoking, he'd kind of push the needle (in me) one way, and pull my body the other, like he was trying to force it to go a different direction. I've never had a fill experience like that before, and doubt I'll have another.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
