Hi there! Has anyone ever heard about there pouch getting stretched? Went in for a fill, thought I needed one.....come to find out I had good restriction but the reason I'm hungry was b/c my pouched has stretched. The doctor advised me to go on liquids for 4 days to shrink my pouch back to regular size. Please advise if anyone has gone through this?????

Thanks!

I have. Your stomach is a muscle and overeating causes it to stretch. Only drinking liquids will make it shrink and will give you a weight loss boost when you return to food. It works great!!! Smart doctor.

Yes, the same thing happened to me.

I knew I was eating more than I thought I should be able to, but I thought I just didn't have good restriction. But when I went in for a fill, they told me I had a stretched pouch. Showed me the picture on Fluero and it was obviously much bigger than it was suppose to be. So, they unfilled my band completely and put me on complete liquids (no lumps at all) for 2 full weeks. I go back in on this Thursday to see if the pouch has gone back to the original size, if not, I have to go 2 more weeks on full liquids....they said if after that it is still not back to the original size I will have to go see the surgeon to see what he recommends...which may mean another surgery to reposition the band or something else (which they didn't specify and I was afraid to ask because if they tell me they are taking the band out I will be devistated).

Please keep me posted on your status. I requested my band be looked at on the fleuro and my doctor refused. He said the only time he does upper GI's is IF there's a problem. It's only been done 3 or 4 times in the 5 years I've had it. That worries me because it's a foreign object in my body.

Happy, go to another doctor. You should not be refused fluero if you request it!

I realize that everyones case is different but it would be nice if there were guidelines that all the Drs. have to follow. I also was also found to have a "pouch" apparently my band was too tight and I ended up with the flu one weekend...needless to say there was alot of throwing up. They are guessing this is the reason for the pouch. I am completely unfilled and am to stay that way for 1 month. Then I am to have another fluero, if it is ok then I will start with small fills and if not then another month of non fill. I hate having no restriction and I am scared to death of any weight gain I may have during this time. Just makes me wonder when I read that some are told soft foods where as I have no restrictions of any kind as far as foods.

HI

I just found out today that I had streached my pouch. I am on liquids for 7 days and I will have another fluero and possibly surgery. My PA put me on prednisone to help with the swelling. I am so frustrated and angry at myself for letting this happen. It does help to know that there are others that have gone through this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
