Oh My only 9 days to go

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I cant believe I have been in this forum as long as I have without my band. I joined this group back in Sept. I can say that I am more band educated thanks to each and everyone of you whether it's been good advice, bad situations, or just funny jokes and opinions. I have patiently been waiting for my band since last July, that's when my Quest started. I can't believe this time next week I will be only a couple of days away from bandland. I will be my Doc's first Adj Band, (with proctor, Dr. Jeffrey Allen). If my memory serves me correct I think Pat had this same proctor. I sure hope mine goes well. Yes, I am getting nervous and anxious. I just got my Magic Bullet in the mail the other day and played with it this weekend. I am going to do my grocery shopping this weekend. I've bought me a couple of books to keep me company while I recover at home. I am going to take 2 weeks off from work. I know a lot of you went back in a lot less time but I have the leave so why not use it. Please keep me in your prayers especially on March 30.

Good for you Tanya! Yes, your memory is great, Jeffrey Allen was the proctor. I felt much safer with being the first adj LB for my doctor, knowing there extra hands there in case of problems. Enjoy that time off and it's good to see you have your "house in order", so to speak, lol. There is a website called, www.buythebullet.com, which is starting a forum for us bullet users. They also have a recipe section and of course you can order the Magic Bullet and accessories as well.

I'm very excited for you.

Tanya, you are ready to go!!! I'm so happy for you. You will do great and everything will go just fine. Good Luck to you!!! We will be praying and looking for your "I made it home fine" post. Until then, see you on the Boards...

Oh! do you have your heating pad yet? That is on my list of purchases, an extra large one and small extension cord for the hospital just in case it doesn't reach the plug...

Tanya, good for you! I had to wait a long time too. But I think it just convinced me that I really wanted to do this and gave me time to learn as much as possible. Yes, liquid tylenol (adult strength). Also, get a filled RX for Phenegran suppositories. Hopefully you won't need them, but all bandsters should have some on hand -- just in case they get a "bug" of some sort w/real vomiting. We can't wait to hear about your journey!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
