Recommended Posts

The gas is causing so much pain! I just took a couple of beano pills I hope they work. Otherwise I am just sore. I had my surgery Monday March 24, and came home the same day.:)

i know what you mean - i felt like that blueberry girl from willy wonka about to pop! but the gas goes away the more you walk...i felt like an old woman walking around the neighborhood holding on to my husband and walking about a block in 30 minutes...but i swear - walking totally helps the gas!

A few years back when I had exploratory surgery, I had horrible shoulder pain from the gas rising and resting there. (If your sitting or standing, it goes to the highest place.) The nurses told me to lay down so that the gas would distrubute more evenly throughout my body until it was gone, and it would cause less pain in the meantime. It worked for me. Take care!

I was banded 3/21/08, had the same issue. Try GasX Thin Strips . . .they work great!

I was banded March 20th and the shoulder pain was pretty excrutiating! I have a gel pad that you put in the microwave - the heat made it SO MUCH better. Heat pad, a couple Advil and a glass of wine.... (wine is a clear liquid... :) ) Worked for me!!!

walk and take GAS X STRIPS they really work fast.

I was very lucky I didn't have that much gas. Only 1 week later, I had a severe gas attack that lasted like 2 hours and as soon as I took the gas x, 10mins later, GONE...

I just got banded on the 21st, came home the same day. I am also a nurse. The best thing for the gas is walking, which, is really hard cuz you are tired, sore and weak. But it works, I promise!

how long do you have to walk? I can't walk outside because it is pouring the rain out here....did you just pace around the house?

I was banded on the 25th and my gas was bad too. The doctor told me to walk as much as I could it was just extra air left over from the surgery when they inflate your stomach and some air gets trapped under your diaphragm. walking does seem to help me.

Bill's wife:

You might consider putting on a rain coat or using an umbrella. I've found that if I let the weather interfere with my walking I won't walk.

Surely you won't melt?:tongue_smilie:

Hope you feel better soon.

I walked up and down the block. I also walked around the house. AT the hospital, we get our patients to ambulate in the hall way, around the room, as much as they can tolerate. I work on a floor that has a lot of post gastric/lap band surgery patients. Walking is best for the extra air.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
