Still Hungry!!

Recommended Posts

I had my band placed on Jan 17th, and have had several fills, and now I'm at 6cc's in a 10cc band. I feel very little restriction, and I still feel hungry. I'm getting frustrated! I guess I am worrying that something is not right with the band. I can get another fill at the end of this week, but I am worried that I am getting so close to the maximum. I am working out like mad, and trying to eat right. I am losing very slowly (14 pounds, but the 1st 10 pounds was in the first 3 weeks after surgery). Does anyone else have similar issues?

There is not much I can add to Jack's post but to say do NOT worry about how many cc's you have in your band. At one point I had 12cc's in my 10cc band. Mind you I was a little too tight but it wasn't like I couldn't eat or drink. So you have plenty of room to go, and sometimes you would be surprised how the difference of even the smallest of fills can make between feeling hungry and feeling like you are at that ever ellusive "sweet spot" people keep talking about.

And congrats on all the hard work you are putting into working with your band rather than just relying solely on the band to lose weight. When your band does finally get adjusted right I think you will be set to soar.

I don't have any real advice as I'm still without a fill. But I was banded 3 days before you and I don't get my 1st fill untill 12 weeks out (April 8th) And you've already had 5 fills. It's funny how things differ between doctors. I sure hope I don't have to wait another 12 weeks for my 2nd fill. Hang in there and keep up the good work and exercise...And I know this doesn't help much, But alot of people on this board would be happy with your current BMI as a goal. I bet you are tightening up and looking better even though the scale isn't showing it.

I am having similar problems last week I went in for my 2nd fill and i can still eat without feeling it. I just stop when I feel i should rather than when i am satisfied. Ill wait a while and then if i'm still hungry eat a little more, then wait another 20 minutes and maybe eat a little more . I asked the nutritionist if i have crossed the line and am now grazing. I don't want to defeat the purpose of the band..but i don't want to go thru my day being hungry either. I'm ready to eat everything i site by evening. any help is appreciated!

Went in for my second fill today. My first fill was 2.5 ml. Second is 2.5 for a total of 5ml. It went okay, my port is at a weird angle. It took about 5 pokes. He did draw a picture so next time it will be easier to find the port. I am going to admit for the first time to anyone how much I weighed when I started this all. I have a huge hangup on stating my weight. I feel though it will help me heal to admit it. I started out at 235 lbs. Now, here the good part at Dr. today I weighed 197. WOO HOO!!!!! I fell great. I am on my way to being who I want to be. I have not set a goal yet because I don not know where I want to be. I think once I feel comfortable I will know that is the right weight. Good luck everyone. Hang in there we are all heading in the right direction.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
