Dr. Farhan Flint, Michigan

Recommended Posts

Anyone use Dr. Farhan and/or had experience with Hurley Bariatrics? I am in the middle of getting cleared from my insurance company. So far so good. I talked with Dr. Farhan and so far the staff there seems nice. Just looking for anyone that has gone through with the band at hurley and maybe specifically with Dr. Farhan.

Thanks in advanced!

I had surgery at Hurley with Dr. Farhan in Nov 07. I only talked with him once, after surgery. They are kind of impersonal, but I havent had any problems at all, and have lost 45lbs since Nov 29. The support groups are nice, everyone from pre surgery to years out post surgery go at the same time. Its nice to hear from everyone.

Thats good to hear! I only been at the office once. I see most people haven't talked to him until after the surgery. I met him my first day down there. He was pleasant. You go to the support groups in flint? I live in saginaw so too long for me to drive me thinks.

they have people from all over go there, I'm sure you could get into a support group closer, (really important, you will learn so much!) someone on here could probably help. I didnt meet him before, because I was supposed to have a different surgeon. Once you have the surgery your appointments will be with the nurses and technitions (sp?) at the center. If you know what kind of band you want be sure to talk it over with them before your surgery. I didnt know the difference, and got the 4cc band. I have been doing ok, but I wish I would have known more about it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
