yljones 0 Posted January 21, 2009 Hi fellow banders and thinking about being banded. last nights meeting was great. I do hope for those who have some hesitations will consider what is best for them. Thank you for the support and the continue encouragement to stay with this journey to healthyness and a better quality of life.
nomadem 1 Posted January 21, 2009 yes it was great to talk and see everyone last night. I just wish we had more time...it goes by so fast. I too need to refocus and I am willing to do today. First I will track everything that I put in my mouth good or bad and be accountable for it. Bc I know that with my band I can do this! thanks for the support everyone! Tova 0 Posted January 21, 2009 I feel alot more positive today. You are a definite inspiration. Keep up the good work. I am trying to stay focused, that is the only thing that works for me - accountability!!!! Thanks tova:smile:
JayinMA 1 Posted January 21, 2009 It was nice meeting everyone! Thanks everyone for answering my questions! Yelena called me today, i'm not sure why, but I'm fairly certain she wants my money (the $550). Jennifer told me I could bring it to my pre-op appt. on the 27th, hopefully that's still the case, if not, hopefully Yelena can wait to get it until friday. Otherwise the people at visa might come break my thumbs before I even get to have surgery!
fatmommyslim 0 Posted January 22, 2009 LOL Jay!! Best of luck to you in your surgery!!!
notateechanow 7 Posted January 22, 2009 Wow....look at all I've missed by being busy for a day! Great to meet everyone at the meeting. Hope that surgery goes well for all of you, and that those of you who have already been banded find a way to stay on the path of trying to follow the rules. Let's face it, changing all those years of bad habits won't happen overnight. I'm hoping to go workout tonight. (Notice I'm back to hoping, not planning.....) I haven't felt much like working out, and since it's rare for me, I figure I should listen and obey my body. So tell me more about this ibuprofen thing---if I stop taking it immediately, will I undo any possible damage I've done?? Can I take one at a time? Is it always dangerous to take it??? Have a good week!
nomadem 1 Posted January 23, 2009 You should be fine l2t7, it’s just something you should avoid if you can bc of the long term issue of it causing problems with ulcers and bleeding esp if you are tight. Dr V scared the crap out of me more than once about it. Hate to sound like a broken record but when in doubt as your surgeon. I posted that note about refocusing and then that night I had problems with over eating. I guess I do still sooth myself with food. It’s been super stressful week with work and although I don’t binge at work or anything when I am home alone w/the tv and I have that first bite…well I kind of zone out a bit. Next thing you know ½ a box of cheez-it is gone and some casserole and etc. I logged in all in so seeing in on line on dailyplate.com really helps me be accountable for it. At least the rest of the week has been better and I’ve been to the gym a few times Tova you’ve come a long way and I know how disappointing it can be to be unrestricted but remember you did put in the work it’s not all bc of the restriction and you can again. It’s a LONG road for all of us, you aren’t alone. Yljiones you are a great asset at the meetings. You are such a pistol! You have a great attitude I can just tell you will be successful I do hope we can get in some post-op discussion at the next meeting, I mean I don’t mind answering questions the band or surgery, but it shouldn’t be the WHOLE focus of the meeting
notateechanow 7 Posted January 23, 2009 Wow....watched your eating AND went to the gym? Tiny, good job!! I'm thinking of going now, but I may just wait and see if tonight is date night or staying home. If I'm staying home anyway, I may as well go workout. If I'm going out, I don't want to have to shower and wash my hair again. (Complete laziness, I know....) Have a super weekend! :scared2:
singingintherain 1 Posted January 24, 2009 Dagnabbit! I was all dressed and ready to go out the door for the meeting and things came up and I couldn't go. What a disappointment. Anyways..I still do have my initial consult coming up at the Faulkner in a few weeks and am so excited about this journey I am on to take care of myself for a change!(always caring for others, aren't we gals?) What can I expect to happen at a first appt with the Doc? Exam? Talk? Tests? I have no idea, but my imagination sure can go to town! singingintherain
JayinMA 1 Posted January 25, 2009 at my first appointment they had me sit at a computer and answer some questions about my food habits, weight, and history (how long have you been overweight etc.) Then they sat me in a room and gave me a brochure to look over until the doctor came in. When he came in we talked and he asked me which procedure I wanted done, bypass or band. He told me how much weight he wanted me to lose before surgery, then he had me pull my shirt up and take my shoes and socks off. He checked my ankles to see if they were swollen (they weren't) and then had me lay back and pressed along my abdomen. Then he told me to lose 10lbs and come back in 4 weeks, and told me to have an upper GI done, a sleep study, psych eval, and nutritionist, and I went out to his secretary to make those appointments. Then i was on my way!
singingintherain 1 Posted January 25, 2009 sleep Study! (said with fear) Does everyone have to have one of those? I'd fail miserably! If I know there is a camera on me while I am trying to fall asleep, ..that's it...I'm awake the whole night. How do I know that will happen if I've never had one? Because I can't even drop off if the shade is up in the room! I get the creeps. I'd fail one of those unless I snuck in some ether!
JayinMA 1 Posted January 26, 2009 A sleep study isn't a pass fail thing, trust me if It was, I would have failed. Like you, I wasn't comfortable at all with all the wires on me and knowing someone was watching me. But I think most people have to have one, just for insurance reasons. I would recommend you not sleep a lot the night before the study so you're tired when you go in, I had my sleep study new year's day night. So the night before (new year's eve) I was up late and slept late the day of the study as a result. So when I got there at 9 p.m. I wasn't tired at all, and then lights out at 10... so I laid in the bed and slept for about 45 mins at a time, with about an hour in between my small naps. It wasn't a great experience for me, but with all that said it still wasn't horrible.
JayinMA 1 Posted January 26, 2009 Does anyone remember their pre-op test? I have to go in tuesday for my pre-op stuff, meet with the anesthesiologist and Dr. Robinson, and I was wondering that would consist of? Do I have to be naked? I require 24 hours notice for prep time if I need to get naked...
jeanangell 0 Posted January 26, 2009 Hi Jay, Pre-op tests (did mine last Friday) were easy. A lot of questions. They did listen to my heart and lungs, felt my abdomen, etc. but nothing bad, minimal nakedness:tongue2:. Then got an EKG and bloods drawn. After all of it was done they sent me for my chest x-rays and I went home from there. She gave me a special soap to use 3 days pre-op which I started today. So surgery here I come...Wednesday.
