I'm hungry 24 hours in

Recommended Posts

Only got banded yesterday - less than 24 hours ago and I woke up hungry and still am. WHAT THE? I feel I could go for a drive to Maccas to get something to eat. Maybe I'm still dehydrated from yesterday.

I've also got a bit of reflux happening. Maybe that's what's making me want to eat.

Assuming you are on clear fluids at this stage, remember you can have jelly, clear broth etc to help fill you. You should be having at least 2 litres of fluids per day and siping them slowly. When are you allowed on full fluids - they will fill you better as you can usually have anything that goes up a macca's straw - and you should include plenty of Protein in these as that will help stop the hunger.

Congratulations on joining the 'other side'

Hey,

i was banded on the 17th and a couple of days after i did have hunger pains, but luckily my dietician warned me about it before hand. She said that there was one of two things that it could be.

First of all it could really just be head hunger. Maybe try having your allocated amount of Water and reading a book or something to stop thinking about it...

Also, she did say that sometimes you can really feel hungry, but its just your band settling in and your stomach getting use to it. Mine still grumbles ALOT even if im not hungry!:sneaky:

Remember you have jelly and diet cordials there, or sometimes a warm cup of tea works well too!:biggrin2:

Good luck!

It's settled down a lot today. I think it might have been a bit of reflux that was making me think I was hungry. I went and got some mylanta today and it seems to have fixed the problem.

The surgeons list for the first two weeks is any Fluid you can sip through a straw. Protein supplements, thin Soups and broths, drinking yoghurts, fruit and vege juice.

Today I've had some watered down apple juice, peppermint tea, cuppa Soup and cordial - over 2L worth so I'll just keep on keeping on.

Sori, congrats on the band - finally!

The most satisfying drink I had during those Fluid days was the Up-and-Go liquid Breakfast yoghurt. I even still have them for Breakfast right now as I feel refluxy until about 10am in the morning. So I think I am going to be one of these bandsters that can't eat breakfast...and I used to love a big breaky.

I never did Water down a meal to liquid consistency in those first weeks, I always stuck to Soups and tried many varieties until I stuck with a homemade chicken and sweetcorn Soup I found in the refrigerated area of Coles. I got addicted to it! It saw me through to the third week!

I go for my first fill in 13 days and counting and look forward to feeling some restriction as my hunger pangs have returned.

Good luck and enjoy!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
