A 3-week post-op Cry for Help!

Just hang in there!! I know what you mean about fooling yourself "fries are mushy food" I did that with chocolate. I love Dove Dark chocolate bars and decided that if I sucked on them, it couldn't be too bad. Well, I still have a bite every once in a while and I still eat bad things every once in a while but I make sure that I eat Protein first! It helps a lot. I have had 3 fills and believe me, it puts the brakes on eating a lot of bad stuff. I used to love cupcakes and I won't dare touch one now. I also love pizza and just tonight tried to eat some. About halfway through the slice I was done. No more for me. It will come. Have patience. This place is an awesome sounding board. Get on here when you think you want something bad. It helps. Trust me!

I was the same way, I stopped at Wendy's a couple times and let myself have a couple of fries and chicken nuggets. But the thing that has changed my ways is going to the gym and working out. Now I think there is no way in hell I'm eating that if I'm working out this hard. I wouldn't be too hard on yourself just yet. Until you get your first fill and start a workout routine, you probably won't want that stuff after that.

I just had my surgery on 3/10/08 and was not even aware that it would be so easy to eat after the healing. I am struggling with being hungry all the time, but I have not dared eat anything that is not on the list of foods given to me by my doctor. Now I'm reading all of these posts and it's making sense to me why I am not losing weight as quickly as I did at first and of course, it's making me realize that I haven't had a fill yet and I can eat a little off the plan...maybe this realization isn't a good thing!

My doctor put me on Carnation instant Breakfast for 10 days before surgery. I was allowed 6 per day and water...that's it! I only lost 8 lbs because it was hard not to eat. I did cheat a little during that time. Then after surgery I put that weight right back on. I have lost 22 1/2 lbs including those initial 8 lbs and thought that because I hadn't lost anything in 4 days I wasn't doing well. Thank you all so much for helping me remember I am not alone and that every one of you has (or will) go through this too. :)

Look at your before photos and them picture yourself at your goal weight everytime you go to eat crap. The band is a tool to teach you the right things but it also take your courage :-) IF you want if bad enough you can do it

lise would you let me know how your fill goes? i was banded 3/5 and my first fill is 4/17. I think we have had some similarities in our progress and I would be interested to see what your fill cc is and what your perspective is afterwards. i understand everyone is diff, but our pre op post op surgeon info/recommendations appear to be very similiar. thanks g2s

Hi everyone,

Thankyou so much for the support on this thread - the response has been overwhelming. I've gotten over this little "hump", and i've had my first fill today - 2cc's in a 4cc band. My fill doctor said that she would be "extra generous", giving me twice what most people get. And i'm feeling great! Mind you, it's only been 12 hours :puke:

I have great restriction at the moment and I couldn't eat more than half a cup of baked Beans for dinner. Breakfast and lunch were fluids only. I'll give it a few days, but my fill doctor said I can come back as early as this time next week if the satiety effects wear off!

Hooray - feeling energized, very positive, and great!

Once again, thankyou all for your support

NOFATCHIX - I think your comments are not appropriate and uncalled for. Maybe you should try your crap somewhere else.

What not be more supportive and encouraging???

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
