My mother was banded last July...she lost about 60lbs and her port is right under skin like you can feel it and see it. Well today the port broke out o her tummy...she has little tube of the band sticking out of her.....the doctor said its normal for people who lost too much weight..so now they have to do in and put the port in deeper in her tummy...anyone else have heard of this happening?? cuz i've lost weight and i can already feel mine :sneaky:

i have NEVER heard of the port tubing coming through the stomach! that's crazy. my dr puts the port about an inch and a half to two inches under the skin, and says he will switch it to a low profile port if i lose enough weight and the skin gets too thin and it is visible.

Normal? What rot. That is definitely not normal.

Maybe when I've lost another 5 kg my ribs will pop out? That doctor is lying his head off.

I hope she gets fixed up, and that no infection gets in there.

That seems really NOT normal. There is nothing sharp enough to actually pierce the skin for any part of it to pop out. The skin would stretch before it pops. Seems very painful as well. I can feel and see my port but no where close to just popping out of the skin. Something dosen't sound right. I hope she really gets this looked at, maybe by a new Dr. :confused2: Good luck.

My doctor says the same thing as mentioned above... Once you start losing weight and you can begin to see your port sticking out, they will replace it with a low profile port so that it is now visible... As far as anything sticking out.... NOT NORMAL. Definitely have it looked at.

NO, that is not normal. I am a nurse and there is no explanation for the port coming out of her stomach. She needs to get a second opinion. I've never heard of this nor is it normal.

I was just banded on March 14th and am having port problems. It is killing me when I bend over. I can feel it real well. Is this normal and does it get better? It really is bothering me. I am going to dr. tomorrow for my post-op and am anxious to see what he says. I look forward to hearing from you on this. :-)

port pain is completely normal after banding. mine lasted about 2 and a half weeks or so. it is worse when twisting, laughing, burping, etc. it will go down as time goes by. :)

My doctor put a low profile port in from the get go. I can feel it but for the most part I am completely unaware of it. Yea that port coming through the skin does not sound quite right. Something is fishy. Good luck with your mom.

I am glad to hear this. I was wondering if this was something I was going to have to live with for awhile.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
