Just makes sure your neighbor gets a modern DS -- where they give you a VSG stomach and don't take as much of the intestines away and she should be fine.

Plus once she stops making so much ghrelin, she may change her attitude towards food. Right now she's got a devil in her telling her that cake and cheeseburgers are yummy, yummy, yummy and that's she SO hungry and she just has to have some.

You know I'm bored when I go hunting on the DS boards for more links. ;o)))))

Check it out:

Bidet Bid'ness

Hi Michael,

I had the same concerns, so I did get a bidet a month before surgery; and it is one of the best purchases I have ever made. Even pre-op I was wondering how on earth I ever survived without it! They definitely DO work, at least, the one I bought does. I read a lot of reviews before I decided on this one, and I highly recommend it. It's on sale right now at Amazon for $109!

The only problem was that my husband said the fittings are metric. He had to create a new fitting for it. But I dunno, I think sometimes he just enjoys going down into his shop and working with metal. The reviews on Amazon don't mention any problems with that.

I have never felt cleaner in my life. It's like taking a little shower every time you go to the bathroom. You can adjust the force of the Water from very gentle all the way to firehose strong, and you can adjust the temperature from cold to hot and everywhere in between. I don't mind that it starts out cold and then heats up, but if you want it to be warm immediately you just need to run the faucet at the sink until it heats up.

I am in love with my bidet and don't understand why every toilet isn't equipped with one!

I don't want a surgery type that requires extra bathroom accessories. Yikes.

And another... burning butt post:

Hey all! Three weeks today and I am doing well.

I have tolerated everything that I have put into my mouth and that is great. I feel really blessed. I am also doing a great job of the 30-30 Protein rules, but exceeding usually to about 60 grams. That is very good for me considering I do lots of fluids.

However, I do wonder when I will have the same poops that I had pre-op (or even close). The stomach acids in my tummy are really killing when they um, come out... Am I ever gonna pop like a big girl again? LOL I feel like my three year old neice. Like, does it get hard ever again?

If I take Probiotics, will that make my stool softer since it is usually treated for Constipation? Or does it only get rid of the smelliness of gas? I do have about 4 oz of yogurt each morning, and it is sooo goood!

Anyone ever use Slippery Elm? (It's an herb.)

Thanks for everyone checking in on me and and answering all my weirded out questions! You folks are the best!

-E

Stinky poops from DS and the needs for THOUSANDS of dollars worth of antibiotics.... all so they can eat fried chicken... freak'en amazing:

I would insist on a stool culture just to rule out that it's not an infection. My surgeon and PCP told me the same thing back in February and kept having dhr and the smell could choke a horse. In august I finally insisted on having a stool culture done and it came back positive. I was put on Flagyl for 14 days and was retested. It came back positive again. I was referred to an intection specialist which put me on Vancocin. The ususal course of treatment is 10 days but since I have had dhr for such a long time I'll probably be on it for at least 3 months. Let me tell you that Vancocin is very expensive. The cost for a 14 day treatment was $1400.00. Yes, that's right one thousand four hundred dollars!! Good thing I have drug coverage. My co-pay is only $5.00. That comes out to about $8400.00 for 3 months. YIKES!!!
HAHAHA... think quick... where would you buy poo pourii? And assuming you know "WalMart" carries it...quick, which section of the store? ;o)

http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/DS/a,messageboard/action,replies/board_id,5357/cat_id,4957/topic_id,3751419/

I'm not getting the logic behind why you'd think you'd find poo-pourri in the potpourri section, other than the similiar names. I would have tried looking in the area with bath sprays.

But yeah, try Hallmark or order it online.

OMG I can't help myself, I keep going over there!

Ha, ha. My grandparents had a bidet in one apartment they rented. Using the toilet was an "interesting" experience.

I've always thought that if you weren't "lined up" just right when using a bidet, there'd be Water everywhere. But I've never tried one, so that's just my impression.

I dunno... I just have this thing. See, there is a difference between NEEDING a bidet vs. WANTING a bidet.

But what the hell do I know?

That is so crazy. Why would anyone get that surgery? I can't even believe they are still doing that surgery when people have these kinds of

problems. sheesh!

It's really not that bad AThinnerDenise. I have friends who have it who aren't obsessed with their bowels like some of the OH people are. Also, a lot of surgeons do it differently now -- they do a smaller stomach and less bypassing of the intestines. That cuts out most of the problems.

I find RnY to be a stranger surgery. You end up with a remnant of your stomach floating around in your body. It can get ulcers and stomach cancer but it can't be scoped. I think that's SCARY stuff!

The shorter intestine that is bypassed in DS does make some difference but they are still left with basic Atkins after surgery. If they eat bad carbs they do indeed smell like a sewer.

Not something I can comprehend why people would want to do. Gahhhh

Oh, I can comprehend it. Some people will do anything to lose weight especially if they don't have to change their eating very much.

Are you guys having any trouble taking meds? I remember when I saw you in Aug. Bubble, you said you could hardly drink very much at once. I worry about all the meds I am taking and how I would get them down. This nighttime reflux is getting bad.

I don't have any problems taking Vitamins. Drinking, I'm getting the hang of that now. Drink three swallows, I'm full, wait 10 seconds, drink three more swallows. ;o) It doesn't annoy me as much as it did at first but the days of guzzling a 16oz bottle of Water are over. That will never happen again. But I'm almost used to it now, just like everyone said would happen.

If your reflux is from the band you need to be very very careful. There is a new study out that shows the anatomy of the banded stomach is such that there is a little pocket that forms and acid stays in there and it can cause all kinds of problems. Are you taking PPIs?

I've been dreaming about it for 30 years or so. It's time to make it happen!

I joined yesterday when I was struggling with this preop diet...
It typically comes and goes, the hard times and easier times. I'm on day 6 of 14  shakes, water, sf Popsicles and jello. And I might actually be losing my mind. But, oh dear lord has the fear set in. Not about the surgery itself, but life afterwards. If I feel this crappy on the preop diet, am I going to feel like this forever after?
I know most of the answers are no, not forever. It might be worse after for a while, then get better. I know it's a more of a mental challenge than physical after the first couple weeks of healing. I get all of that. But I'm starting to feel scared about losing myself afterwards.
It might be my hormones or desire to chew something salty talking.. It may go away soon or tomorrow.. I can hope, anyway. But right now.. The fear is real.

And this liquid diet can bite me.

Fear is normal, but if it makes you feel any better, I'm 4.5 months post-op and the pre-op diet was by far the hardest part of the whole process. There will be challenges and a lot of new things to learn, but I can honestly say at this point I feel so much more "back to normal" and was even able to go on a week-long vacation with my kids without stressing over it. It's so worthwhile.

      2. OhMyGawdItzKla

@NickelChip This actually does make me feel better! Thank you so much! After the onslaught of Covid, we've all had to deal with a "new normal", so I know it's possible. It's just the fear and frustration in this moment that makes me question if I can find another "new normal" afterwards. The thought of just a few more months seems daunting some times, but I really do appreciate input and real experience. I'll use that to get me through for a few more hours! LOL. Thank you so much! And I'm glad everything is going so well for you! ❤️

I started my 10 day pre op diet yesterday I need flavor!! I'm not big on the chocolate protein shakes so I just got to use up what I have was thinking about freezing it to make it like a ice cream so its something I can chew a little. Idk this is hard but I know I can do it just need to find new things to try

You can try. I've read other people have had good results with protein-shake popsicles, etc. My personal experience with it? Sucked.

I tried making 'fudgesicles' with a couple different flavors of a premade shake, as well as a protein powder I blended myself and all of them came out revolting? The powder ones, all the protein sunk to the middle; the premade shakes, the popsicle had a disgusting texture and the protein seemed to leave a weird fluffy film on the outside? I couldn't stomach it.

Maybe look into flavoring additives? I was able to have sugar-free coffee /soda syrup flavorings, sugar-free drink flavorings and baking additives like almond, rum or pepperment extract. The extracts helped me the most as they added no extra sweetener.

On the other hand, if you can get your hands on an unflavored/unsweetened protein powder, the syrup flavorings are perfect. I love to use Boost "Just Protein" (which is unflavored) with milk and a Chai-flavored sugarfree syrup.

        Good luck!
