Nutritionist Appointment

Recommended Posts

I went for my first appointment with the nutritionist yesterday and quite frankly thought it was a big waste of my time. I don't think I left there with any new info, a food plan or anything. Basically, she said start eating smaller portions, like if I have a whole bagel for Breakfast, only have 3/4 instead. She didn't give me any eating plan at all. I guess I thought she would have something else to offer me but nothing. Is this how everyone's appointment went? I have to schedule a visit in a month and i'm not sure what she expects to find since she didn't even tell me to quit eating junk.

When I went to see the nutritionist, she gave me a lot of tips about how to eat less. We sat and discussed what my eating habits were and how to change them. I learned a lot, but she also told me a lot of things I already knew. I guess each nutritionist is different.

That's because the basic rules of weight loss are very simple. Eat less, move more. There's only so much you can pad that out with words.

Personally, I dont think nutritionists are worth the money unless you really do not know what makes a healthy diet (and some people really dont). For most of us lifetime dieters, that isnt the case.

For most of us lifetime dieters, that isnt the case.

Heck, I know so much about good nutrition, I could GIVE the nutritional consult.

Which is why when my dh asked why not go see a nutritionist instead of getting a band, I seriously had to decide if I was going to let him live.

I think we could all write a book on nutrition and dieting. I'm not thinking that I will get much new info from the Nutritionist, although didn't she go over post-surgery eating? I would think that was the point.

I just filled out 7 pages of nonsence from the Psychologist. I understand they need to know if I'm mentally ok to go through with surgery, but there were no questions about emotional eating, etc. It was just question after question about whether I had spirtiual support, faith and if I was suicidal.

I was really looking forward to meeting with the Psych, ('cause I know I have "issues") but now I'm thinking it might just be a stepping stone on my way to surgery. Sorry to sound so negative, but I know I won't vent my frustrations during my appt, easier to do it here.

I guess I was expecting too much from them, she went over post-surgery diet but kept talking about bypass surgery and well you won't have this issue if you get lap band. I know I kept stressing that I wasn't having bypass but I don't think she listened. I really don't think she even wanted to deal with me much since the other nutritionist is the one I was supposed to see. The other one does primarily bypass and lap band patients. Oh well, I'll do my second appointment with them basically because I have to so I can have the surgery and then move on from there. I can't wait for the psych eval, that should be a hoot!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
