Well, I went and got a fill on Tuesday. Had 1.4 now at 1.6. I can't drink anything without throwing it up before around 1-2, but I can eat some baked potato. Does anyone else have a problem drinking? I am going to get an unfill on Monday, just have him take out the .2 that he put in. I have had the acid reflux. I am also having it when I lay down. Aunt Flo is visiting til tomorrow. Should I just ride it out for another week or just get the unfill. Just wasn't sure if this was common for others not to be able to drink and not hold it down. Thanks.....

Kelly, I had to get an unfill Mar 11, I waited 9 days, thought it was swelling, NOT. I could keep Water and coffee down, but Soup or anything else came back. I couldn't even eat my all time safe food...chili, not even pureed. If you're not more open by tomorrow I'd definately call for a little to be taken out. It's really weird, but since the unfill most of the time I can eat anything and too much of anything, but at the darnest time, like when I was at a restaurant yesterday, the first bite and I was done, had to go pb in the restroom. Now today, wide open again, don't think I could get a pb if I tried, lol.

I will mention when I apologized to my doctor for having to get the unfill, he said that's the wonderful thing about this band, adjustment is so easy. I hope he feels that way when I call him and tell him I need more tomorrow:laugh .

So remember, that is the good thing about this band we don't have to be miserable.

Be sure to keep us posted.

Yep, once again I agree with Pat. I've been too tight but even with nightly reflux I was never so tight that I couldn't drink. That would scare me.

As you know, even a very small unfill can make all the difference. If I were you I'd have it adjusted. You don't want it to get any worse.

After reading some of the other posts regarding being too tight, I now don't know if I should get an unfill or just go with the flow. I am having reflux at night and that scares me. But, should I try and just go with nothing today and then warm liquids and see how that goes. My dr is only in town on Monday and Tuesday's, if I do decide later in the week to get an unfill I will be in trouble.

The reflux is a big concern, Kelly. You don't want that damage to your esophogus.

Are you following the "rules" about avoiding reflux? Also, are the liquids you're taking in the mornings hot? You do sound too tight, although potato always clogged me up...

Yesterday morning well around noon, I tried some cappacino and it did not stay down. I can always eat baked potatoes, just have to have alot of butter. I know I am too tight, I am just trying to keep losing, but before this fill I had lost 4 lbs in 3 weeks. Yesterday morning after I was up for a while and did not consume anything by mouth, I still had to throw up....so I do need to go to the Dr.

Info on reflux:

I would do everything you can to avoid reflux - even occasional reflux will add up and result in damage.

You probably know the reflux avoidance guidelines (in order of least to most aggressive):

1. Do not over eat.

2. Avoid acid producing foods/drinks, like caffeine, chocolate, peppermint, orange juice, spicy food.< /span>

3. Do not lie down after eating (I think they recommend a 3 hour wait?)

4. Do not eat or drink 3 hours before bedtime.

5. Take an OTC med to control reflux.

6. Elevate the head of the bed (helps keep the esophagus above the stomach so there's no backflow).

7. Get a slight unfill.

Ways to avoid nighttime reflux - stop eating 3-4 hours before bedtime. Avoid acid promoting foods in the evening, like caffeine and chocolate and spicy foods.

Yep, Kelly, I agree. Remember we're going to be banded for a LONG time, and making sure it's safe is more important than dropping a few more pounds at this time. I went through this exact thing last month, and do not regret my unfill one tiny bit.

You'll be happy you did it, really!

I feel bad for you, I had the same problem last week, I had a fill Wed, and couldn't keep anything down, I felt like I was going to choke on all the slime when I layed down. I was desperate to get an unfill on Friday, but since I have a three hour drive to the doctor and since he was in surgery that afternoon, I couldn't get an unfill. Well I decided to take control and relax.. I stayed on only warm liquids all Day Fri, and on Sat, and that did it, but it was rough on Friday night I thought I would choke during the night with all that sliming, but by Sat night I felt perfect, drank warm teas, and warm chicken broth, Sunday, I ate mushies and today I am doing mushies, its working... My surgeon suggested that any time one gets a fill it is necessary to treat it as if you just had surgery and do 3 days liquids 3 days mushies and then three days choppy food, and well chewed. I am feeling so much better, I thought I was dying last week, was really regreting getting the fill and even thinking if getting this band was the right thing. I am so glad I didn't get unfilled, I am doing so much better today. I wonder if being on or almost getting Aunt Flo has anything to do w/ how we react to fills, I started mine on Friday night, is'nt that just weird. On the good side I weighed myself today and I've lost 5-6 lbs since Wed., it was a heck of a way to lose them, but hey something good came out of it. I went from 1.2 cc's to 2 cc's and I now have the restriciton I needed to start losing weight again. I hope you feel better.

Well, he took out the .2 that he put in. I am now back at 1.4. On the way back to work I stopped and got some icecream and I ate some of it. I don't think it has went down. I can feel it sitting above the band, and it hurts. What is the chance that maybe it is slipped or could it be just swollen still?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
