Hello from Washington

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is Mari and I live outside of Vancouver WA (basically across the Columbia river from Portland, OR. I was banded on Dec 21, 07 and have lost 42 pounds. I have recently had my second fill. I find my eating life a bit challenging but hope to get knowledge and support from those who have travelled this road before me.

I am glad I found you. Our local support group meets at a time that is simply inconvenient for me and I don't get to go and I feel that I need some folks around me who understand the whole thing.

I am married and work for a doctor. My husband and my boss are truly very supportive of me and it has helped tremendously, but they just don't know the in's and out's of things like this.

Thanks for having me!

Welcome Mari, glad to have you! You will find much support here, look around and there are even a few groups with specific types of needs - like Month/Year you were banded - BMI over 50+ - etc. Make yourself at home!

Hi Mari and welcome!

I also live in Vancouver and work for a doctor (well, several of them, especially when I'm working in the ER!).

My band date is (YEAH!) two weeks away. Did Dr. Dally or Dr. Cagle perform your surgery?

Best of luck to you and congratulations on the fabulous loss!

Welcome from the other side - Clarkston, Wa. I was banded 3/3/08 and it's going pretty good. Good luck with everything and just holler if you need to talk.:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
