Once you reach your goal weight can you be unfilled completely and can you then go back to eating (in moderation) tortillas, rice, popcorn ect. and do you still have to follow the 60/30 rule. I know this may sound studpid but I was just wondering.

Hi, I've reached my goal back in January so I can help you with this.

As far as getting the band unfilled SO you can eat tortillas, rice, etc....

well, I ate those all the time and still do. You don't need your band unfilled to eat these things. To eat 'more' sure...you'll need to have the band unfilled.

And I don't know anything about the 60/30 rule...never heard of it.

When I reached my goal I made an appointment for a lapband adjustment. My doc took out .3 cc. Not alot, but going down is just as important as going up...do it slowly.

I must admit I have lost a little more than I'd like, but a few tootsie rolls and ice cream took care of that....I just have to keep my calories up.

I wouldn't make any bets on it (being unfilled to eat in "moderation"). Since my unfill of 1.3 cc's last week, I am having to really consciously watch myself. Those old habits come back fast (I was banded 10 months ago). My band is back to where I was in June of last year on my second fill. I did not get really good restriction until my 4th fill. I am being extremely careful and biding my time until I can be refilled in a week (See the thread about those who PB/Refluc a lot).

Why unfill COMPLETELY? The band does not have to be all filled or all empty. You can unfill a little at a time until you get to a comfortable place for you to eat a little more and not gain weight back. You can then determine if the foods you WANT to eat will go down in moderate amounts.

Honestly, it depends on what you did to lose the weight.

If you relied pretty exclusively on restriction to lose weight, you are going to need restriction to maintain.

If you modified your lifestyle, and eat healthy whole foods, and exercise on a daily basis, a couple of different things might happen. Your weight loss might slow down to a crawl when you get close to your goal weight, and struggle to get there, or you might get to goal, and with very little modification to your current eating and exercise, you will maintain, or (like me) you might find despite your best efforts to stop losing, you don't. And really, that third scenario's the only one that calls for an unfill total or otherwise.

Your best bet, is to get to your goal weight, and reassess the situation when you get there.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
