:confused2::confused2:Am I the only person having problems with the FIRST fill??????

I had my first fill 3/5/08..........then on 3/10/08 Nausea started on and off I wnet back to the doctor 3/19/08 and my first fill was removed to see if the nausea was related to the band. Yesterday I go in for follow up and my doctor places 2 cc back in my band the same amount from the first time and I could not swallow without burping. So he removed 1/2 cc and then I felt fine. About 15 mins later I left as if I could not swallow and there was pressure on my chest. I get to my job and call the doctor and since it was after hours (I was the last appt for the day) I get a call back from o/c doctor (my doc's partner) and he tells me not to drink or eat for the rest of the night. (not like I wanted to anyways) and if things are not better by the morning to go to the office and if things get worse to call him.........As time went by instead of things getting better they got worse. I called him back and he stated for me to go the ER and he will meet me there. AGAIN my entire fill was removed again. INSYANT relief!!! I am being told that since I am not as big as most people I will have to take extra baby steps and in a week they will place .75 as my first fill in my band. and then from there .25 each time. I understand that I have to go s l o w and all I just feel now the weight will never come off in a decent amount of time. What is going on with me!:)

I know your frustration. My doc will only fill 1cc at a time and ONLY every 8weeks!! He says that the slower people go the more successful they are with the weight loss. Hope this is encouraging. Hang in there.

How is your restriction with no fill? Sounds like the doc got the band in just the right spot and you might not need a fill.

Just my optimistic .02 nothing more nothing less

I'm sorry you're struggling so much--is is frustrating, for sure!

If this perspective helps at all....I had my first band (4cc) for 5 years. The MOST I could ever handle as a fill was 0.8--that's it!! So just know that some of us are just more sensitive to fills than others. The band still works great!

So, take it nice and slowly, and just work your way up to a higher fill level.

Thanks!

That makes me feel better. I just never heard anyone having issues with fills. Did your weight loss go very slow?

Yes, weight loss was fairly slow...it took about 19 months to lose 103 pounds. BUT I've kept it off pretty easily for a couple of years. :)

Since I seem to be in the same boat as you. Can you give me any advice on foods? I work 2 jobs and I am always on the go. I leave home about 7:30 am and I get home around 10-10:30 pm.

Restriction can definitely be random by week, day, even time of day.

Go slow with your fills, if you even need one right now. My first fill was only .5 cc and at the time it was all I needed. I've been too tight also, and had to seek an emergency unfill (caught during regular Dr. hours, but had to be done by someone who had never done a fill/unfill before). It's not a happy place.

BTW, with a banded BMI near 50 you're in the upper percentile of BMI to get banded. I'm not sure why your surgeon would say that you're smaller, or even if you were a lower BMI (generally around 35 or less) what that would have to do with your fills... unless he's referring to organ fat pad. *shrug* Maybe that's his way of answering a question he can't otherwise answer. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
