how to fade scars and stretchmarks

Recommended Posts

Since my surgery over a month ago, all of my incisions have healed. I was wondering whether anyone has tried the various products out there to fade scars and fade the stretch marks that I have developed over the years. I have heard of cocoa butter products and bio oil. If anything special has worked let me know and how long did it take to notice a difference? Also, any idea on when it is okay to tan my stomach which may also lessen the impact of the scars and stretch marks?

I keep a bottle of Vitamin E Baby Oil in the shower and have put that on my scars since surgery, Today, they are about 90% gone. I think genes/skin tone play as large a part in the healing as would some cream or oil - but I still wanted to get rid of them, and the oil (Dr recommended) seemed to do the trick for me.

Tanning "might' make the scars worse, I think I heard that once - could totally be wrong on that. I just started using some self tanners to see how they do, ..

Sounds goofy, but my aunty put me on to this a long time ago. Extra Virgin Olive oil. Then my tattoo artist told me about it (he is a retired RN) too!!

It is goofy but it works, all of my past surgical scars are gone. Well except the belly button scar. Can't get that to poof for nothin. Maybe after I loose all this weight they will give me a TT and build me a new belly button

The nurse at my doctor's office told us that it isn't the product you put on your scars that makes them lighter, but rubbing them breaks down the scar tissue. She said the plastic surgeons who work with their office told them that. I've been rubbing mine when I think about it and they are getting lighter. It makes sense that baby oil or olive oil would make your skin more soft and supple so it can't hurt but she said it was the rubbing that actually broke down the scars and made them disappear.:cursing:

I thought it was an interesting theory. :confused2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
