Still having gas pain in shoulder??

Recommended Posts

I have found over the past two 1/2 months since having my port revised, that after eating I get the same shocking pains in my left shoulder that I did straight after my initial lap band surgery back in October 07. It's not every time I eat but often enough to be very annoying. Does anyone else get this? What could be causing it? It's driving me mad and making me worry that something is not right for this to be happening.

Ask your Dr about the vagus nerve and if this could be causing the pain. You can goggle it.

I had that pain (like most people) right after surgery. Sometimes after a fill, my band is a little tighter from swelling and I get the pain again. The vagus nerve runs from the abdomen up through the left shoulder.

If it's mild then I find it just reminds me the band is there and is working. If it hurt a lot then I would ask the Dr more questions about it.

Just found a thread with heaps of people suffering from the same thing - given me lots of food for thought - have contacted my surgeon to see what he thinks about it.

I was banded 3/24 and having the worse pain in my life in my left shoulder and then sometimes going up my neck. It starts at the tip of the shoulder. Did anyone take anything to releave the pain.

I have never heard of this complication until now..

I have still the same thing...although it was much worse right after surgery it is now just when i eat some foods and if I wait to long to have something and eat a bit too fast..it hurts worse than labor pains and shoots up the side of neck and the top of my shoulder on the left side. I made several trips and calls to my surgeon complaining about the same but he pretended to not have a clue as to why I was having this pain. NEVER NEVER was the Vagus nerve mentioned....I don't know what to do to fix it.

I still have pain and it is not GAS like they try to tell you it is....I had lapband 11-19-09 and I am still hurting...it is so bad I want to just cuss and scream ...and hit the f--kin surgeon that did this to me...:w00t:..then when I went back multiple times complaining about this horrible pain he acted like he didn't know what I was talking about and had nvr had any other patients complain about this before...which now I see is bullshit....since there are many on here who have the same thing.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
