Hi,

I'm a relatively new bandster, and I am also new to this site. I find it really helpful in answering many of my questions. I also really enjoy the chat rooms. There I have found many friendly fellow bandsters and bandsters to be. I spend hours on here, and I love it!

I was banded on February 18, 2008, by Dr. Ajay Goyal, here in New Jersey at Overlook Hospital. The surgery went very well, and I hardly had any pain or gas. I was so lucky, but Dr. Goyal is an excellent surgeon and is very, very good at what he does. I was up and walking around that very night. My room was a suite, and it was absolutely lovely. I brag about how big it was, and also about the flat screen tv with free movies and video games I had. I almost wanted to stay at least one more night!

If you're in the northern New Jersey area, and you're contemplating the Lap Band, I highly recommend Dr. Ajay Goyal. He is the Director of Bariatric Surgery and Associate Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey.

I am still waiting for my first fill! Good luck to everyone!

Welcome - I am a new bandster as well. Surgery was 3-14. Took me about a week to be absolutely normal again, but here I am, very happy with my decision. I envy you, I had two days of alot of the gas pain. But that is all over and the future looks oh so good!!!!

Hi Lonestar!

Thanks, and welcome to you, too! Congratulations on your surgery, and I wish you well on your weight loss journey. I am happy to hear you're feeling better now. How's the soft diet going for you? I agree, the future sure does look good ... for both of us!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
