Hey Everyone, this is my first time to post anything but really need some advice. I have been VERY sick since 3/7 and had the flu, strep throat and bronchitis. Well to make a long storey short I have been throwing up ALOT and can not keep anything down at all due to the coughing. I had such a bad cough that I would cough till I threw up. Well after 2 trips the ER, the cough has finally stopped for the most part. Well went to see Dr. Speigel today and he told me that he would take my fill out and order a Braium Swallow to be on the safe side. I of course started crying. I am soooo afriad that I have really messed something up. Has anyone had something close to this happen to them. Please help, i have soooo upset right now. I have lost 38 lbs to date, I had my surgery on 10/26/07. I feel like this is a HUGE set back.

I've never had it happen to me, but I know several people who have been through sifnificant illness/nausea since banding and all are fine. It's good that your surgeon is willing to check you out, many won't until you show symtoms of something being wrong.

I've heard, through the grapevine kind of thing, that one of my surgeon's patients lost her band after a slip that was blamed on coughing. This is the only instance like that I've heard of, and I can't confirm it's true.

Don't see it as a huge setback already, you don't even know if anything is wrong. Try to think positive and wait and see what the tests show. If you have slipped, it can often be fixed by a short period of unfill.

Thanks very much. I guess I am just sooo scared to let everyone down, my parents paid for it out of there pocket. It has been the best thing i have ever done for myself. Thanks again.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
