Fear nagging my heart

Recommended Posts

I have this absolute conviction that my band is slipping. I don't have any real pain just a twinge of something I can't identify down there sometimes. I haven't had a fill yet, and I do have some restriction, but I feel like it has slipped. I think that it is just a fear I have because I am selfpay and if it slips I can't afford to fix it. I can't get it out of my head, "its slipping, it's slipping, It's not going to work, Everyone knows I have surgery, it's slipping"

Do you have any symptoms of slipping? Are you throwing up or PBing all of the time? I doubt it has slipped. This is not as common as it once was because of how they now attach the band.

If you are worried and have symptoms, definately call your DR do not wait though.

I think that is probably a very normal fear. I wasn't self-pay, but I remember worrying about that, too. If you aren't having symptoms of a slip, though, try not to stress too much about it, because even though slips do happen, they're fairly rare. If you're searching on LBT for threads about it, and it seems like there are a lot, even that isn't a good gauge of how often it happens, because in MANY cases, people don't search out online support for something that isn't causing them problems. When they do start having problems, they'll go out looking for a place where they can ask questions and get support.

I hope this helps. If it doesn't, call your surgeon and tell them about how you're feeling, and maybe they can help put your mind at ease.

I went through something like that about a year ago. I noticed every little twinge, and to me it felt like my band "hurt" sometimes. It just felt "wrong."

Finally I sucked it up, called my surgery center and begged to have a fluoro done. Everything was fine on the fluoro. The band was placed perfectly & the barium went down just like it should. The only thing that was actually wrong was that Fluid was missing from my band when he checked the amount, so I got a fill. And then I went on my way, and mysteriously my twinges vanished and my worries & fears went by the wayside.

So even though the doc seemed a tad annoyed with me, I am glad I went in and had it looked at for my own peace of mind!

When you go in for your first fill at 6 weeks post op, your doc may do an adjustment w/ xray aka fluro.

If he doesn't, request it...tell him your thoughts...and you'd rather be safe than sorry. That xray shouldn't be but about 80-100 bucks. And if there is no slippage.... good deal.

If you do...well, that's money well spent.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
