How much exercise do you get?

Recommended Posts

hi foofy,

i am currently training for the MS150 which is a 2 day bike ride between houston and austin. so i'm focused right now on that and doing 2-3 spin classes a week.

when i am not training i normally do 2 spin, 2 kickboxing classes and 1 total conditioning which is basically weight training.

last may....i was banded about the same time as you when a light bulb went off in my head.

my weight loss had come to a halt and i realized i was working out maybe once a week and i was starting to eat junk. so i went to a place in Mexico called "bikini bootcamp" which really helped me to increase my endurance quickly. i also started to journal my food in Free Diet Plans at SparkPeople.

it made the world of difference for me and the weight started to come off. plus it really is tightening my skin.

i want to try to avoid plastic surgery so that is also giving me the motivation to exercise.

i feel great now

i am coming up on my anniversary. and this time last year i was MISERABLE. i felt like i was going into an abyss. what a difference a year makes.

good luck with your program...it's great that you are proactive in your approach.

Hey Foofy gal. I've been an on again off again kind of exerciser. When I'm off I eat badly and, duh, don't lose any weight! Imagine that, eh? haha. I'll tell you what does work for me though. I have to do some kind of "harder" workout like a DVD or running for about an hour pretty much every day, and then if I do additional stuff like walking for an hour daily, that tends to be what it takes for me to lose weight - like a pound a week. When I'm active like that I also try to do more "extra" stuff like dancing to salsa with my kid or jumping on the trampoline with him. In other words, I'm consciously moving all the time instead of being a couch potato like I am right now! I'm getting to the point where I know I'm going to have to start that up again because the weightloss is stalling big time.

I'm checking in. I started doing the eliptical trainer after work this week. I started out slow, so I wouldn't get burned out and quit. So, my goal is to do 20 minutes a night 6 days this week. Next week, I'll up it to 25 and then 30. I must say that I slept like a log the last two nights...

DH and I used to walk to work with our dog and walk home at lunch. It's about a mile each way on a hill. Then, the dog got old (he's a 15-yr old border collie) and he can barely get around. So, we DRIVE him to the office and take him up the elevator. He used to be a great source of exercise, but now he is an excuse for us NOT to exercise. We keep thinking he is going to keel over any minute, and then we can start walking to and from work again. Maybe, in the meantime, I'll alternate with DH and one of us can drive the dog in while the other one walks. Man - I sound like a lunatic.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
