Coffee, yes or no?

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys, I am 4 weeks post op and doing quite well. I have a question, how many of you drink coffee, how much do you drink and is it only decaff.? I had a cup of Decaf yesterday with my Easter Breakfast and it was so good!!!! I just wonder if it can have any ill effects, anyone know?

I love coffee! I gave it up for a combination of Lent and a liver detox thing. Easter sunday was my first cup.......it was really good. Personally I try to stay away from Decaf, I have always found that decaf feels like it is rotting my stomach (who knows I could be allergic to it). I dont see the harm in a cup of regular coffee now and then, unless of course you need to avoid it due to a health condition or a particular medication

My LapBand surgeon came into the pre-op area with a Starbuck's cup in his hand before my-surgery and he is has a lapband too. I would think he would not drink it if it was not good for us. I drink the full leaded/hard stuff too. No Decaf for me.

My doc said NO caffeine AT ALL. He says it dilates the esophagus......who know....I have not heard that philosophy from anyone else though. I stayed away from it for about 3 weeks and gave in. Some mornings I just need it!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
