Support Group help

Recommended Posts

So we are looking for some good support group topics and guest speakers in my clinic. Does anyone have any ideas or sugestions from what you have experienced at supports groups? We have done protien tastings, plastic surgeons, psychologists, and exercise pysiologist, nutritionists. I am jsut trying to look for something new and different. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

I can't give you suggestions from the (very few) support groups I've attended because the topics weren't helpful. But from my butt:

A clothing exchange. Myths about the body/weightloss/etc. A "bring your favorite band friendly food" recipe swap thing - kinda like the Protein tasting only better. Psychologist to focus on managing addiction (it that wasn't one of your topics already). A little Bandster 101 never hurt anyone, I've meet people 3 and 4 years out who are doing some really stupid things because they still don't know better.

That's about it, I'm not feeling creative today.

the "traveling" bandster. How to negotiate flying, hotels, dining out, what to pack, emergencies, etc. I just returned from a trip to DC. It was an experience.

How to eat at restaurants, negotiating holiday foods, sharing how an individual overcame a specific obstical, discuss who is a support who is a barrier, visualize what success will look like, setting short term and stretch goals...these are what I think about.

Look at some old Weight Watcher ideas.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
