Easter Ham

Recommended Posts

Okay so - I hate holidays. I do -- for many reasons - running from this family to that family to nibble on everyone's dinner offerings........feeling like they are all watching what I'm eating (I'm sure this is self-counsiciousness on my part).... I'm SOOOOO glad it is over - I over indulged a little - BUT had to remind myself that even my overindulgence was in no way what it would have been last Easter.... In any event - it will be a salad for lunch and Soup for dinner......

Anyone else hate to see the holiday's coming????? Come vent with me.....

Yes I too hate the holidays. Our kids are grown but my husband insists on the whole trimming regardless. I also did take in more than I should have but still the control was there. It definitely better choices and less quantity. But the pressure is there and the memories of it being a "feeding frenzy" on the holidays. YOur not alone.....

I still set a sumptuous table for the holidays, but have varied my recipes a bit. Instead of green bean casserole, I have steamed green Beans with almonds. Instead of twice baked potatos with butter, sour cream and cheese, I make whipped sweet potatos. Instead of cake and pie, I serve angel food cake with fresh strawberries. Instead of glazed carrots, they are simply steamed. If I make mashed potatos, I boil them in chicken stock for flavor. They are so tasty, they don't need butter and sour cream. I stuff celery sticks with sugar free, low-fat, Peanut Butter instead of cream cheese. I make a fresh fruit salad instead of a sweet Jello mold. The table is still lovely but the calories on it are greatly reduced. I don't even think my family realizes I made the changes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
